...That is now widely considered a sci-fi masterpiece, one of the franchise's proudest moments, and set the table for for the next 35 years of entertainment within the franchise?

There is no "objectively" about it. It's entirely a matter of taste and opinion.

What I read said it was holding steady. Of course that was just the overnights, and there was also a news story the other day saying Orville dominated the 3 day ratings and then tied AGT in the 7 day ratings. I almost think now it's the overnight ratings that are turning meaningless.

I think that was the one time skeptical fans were overwhelmingly won over.

You mean the one with heart, and warmth and even a touch of optimism? All things that were sorely lacking in Discovery's first two outings.

Comparing them to TWoK, completely misses the point of Star Trek. To me.

I saw as much as I did in plenty of DS9, as in "we know the universe is a big place and this isn't all there is, we know there is more to the star trek universe than violence and hatred but sometimes starfleet have to deal with those things and right here, right now is one of those instances".

Mine, too. I rewatch it every few years (often by way of introducing it to a newcomer) and it holds up. Every so often I wonder if it was just that I was very young when it came out that tricks me into thinking it's better than it is, but nope. I just got lucky, what with DS9 being my biggest "formative series".
 
Neither DS9 nor TWOK are my personal favorites.

TWOK is, however, probably the most enduring and well-liked Trek movie. DS9 is neither of those things.

I think my point is- we see precisely what we want or expect to see based on bias.

I see very little difference between TWOK and DSC at the core, aside from the fact that one featured established characters and one did not.

Otherwise, the "stuff" is all the same...right down to the complaints of "overuse of a color palate" (reds vs blues).

DS9 is my favorite of the Berman era spin offs, no doubt.

Not quite TOS, though. That stands alone.
