Rate the pilots

1. The Cage
2. Where No Man Has Gone Before
3. Emissary
4. Caretaker
5. Encounter At Farpoint
6. Broken Bow

No reasoning for me, just the way it rolls. It's a mood thing I suppose. (I do like Shouty Spock though. ;) )

1. DS9 - Emissary
2. VOY - Caretaker
3. TOS - The Cage
4. TNG - Encounter at Farpoint
5. TOS - Where No Man Has Gone Before

They are ALL great pilots except ironically STNG, which is the best show of the bunch.

1. Emissary-I recall when this came out almost everyone proclaimed it was the best pilot, and they are still right! It's the densest, most complex, and most relevant pilot to the rest of the series. It also showed us some of Wolf 359, you can't go wrong there. Sisko seems like the most human of commanders here.
2. Broken Bow-This barely edges out Caretaker. Its a cool tale about the early exploration of space. I like the "history" of it. It felt like it brought some more frontier adventure back, with exotic locales and early astronauts of light speed travel figuring things out.
3. Caretaker-Good introduction to a new series, but it didn't quite live up to this for a few years yet. What a fake out!
4. Where No Man Has Gone Before-You know the pilots are good when a truly great episode like this is 4th!!
5. The Cage-Good story but the characters and (expensive!) production are cruder than the other pilots. Not a huge fan of the casting.
6. Encounter At Farpoint-Sigh...I LIKE the idea of Q, I LIKE the sentimental story of two aliens reuniting with each other I just wish the studio hadn't asked them to expand this to two hrs!! The acting style and characters are so odd here.. Yar almost sounds like the yelling Spock. Its all very raw, but you can feel the central magic is there.

1- "The Cage" - my personal favorite
2- "Where No Man Has Gone Before" - second pilot introduced the iconic characters of TOS
3- "Caretaker" - an excellent start to a good series
4- "Broken Bow"- a good start followed by an average series
5- "Emissary" - not a fan of the series, but a good pilot to introduce the series
6- "Encounter at Farpoint" - poor start, fortunately the series became much better

Broken Bow (The time/distance to the Kilngon homeworld still bugs me)
Encounter at Farpoint (Boring, bland crap, like so much of the first season)

Nobody else wants to include TAS?

1. Emissary
2. Broken Bow
3. Caretaker
4. Beyond the Farthest Star
5. Where No Man Has Gone Before
6. The Cage
7. Encounter at Farpoint

Nitpick alert!

Wouldn't only The Cage and Where No Man Has Gone Before be considered "true" pilots. The other shows were already sold as series before the pilots ever filmed.

Yes this is true, but they still call them Pilots in Hollywood. Lots of TV shows that have multiple episode orders have a title that comes up as "Pilot" even though there was no doubt they'd make it to series.
