Live(ish) TV -

It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia premiere - This show wobbles in quality but the premiere was an anarchic riot. A-.

Fringe premiere - Very solid. Good premise, cast, writing; eager to see where it goes at least for this season. A.

Sons of Anarchy, first two eps of the season - They're interweaving several fascinating, violent and emotionally wrought plot arcs this season, but I'm starting to think this show is a bit too cartoonish and insane. (Which in my book, are not fatal flaws - it sure ain't boring.) But they made a cardinal error with Sherrif Hale -
they made him unrealistically stupid in order to get a plotline to work - he cannot possibly be so foolish as to think trading Sam Crow's relatively benign regime for a pack of white supremacist masters is a smart trade-off! Either way, he'll be letting lawless scumbags run Charming, so what's the benefit to him? How could he possibly fail to see through Zobelle's self-serving BS about "cleaning up the town"?
Still, the stellar cast makes up for a lot. B+.

Mad Men - Guy Walks into an Ad Agency. Emmy or no Emmy, I'm having trouble maintaining interest in this show. It's not the pacing, it's the sense that it's not going anywhere. At least something happened this ep, even if it was
Tarantino-esque
. B.

DVDs -

Buncha S2 episodes of Curb Your Enthusiasm. I thought S1 was iffy-to-good but the show is finding its legs and the quality is now consistent with occasional over-the-top forays, but that's kinda the style (Christians vs Jews in the "baptism" scene). A.

Prison Break: The Final Break. Direct to DVD, wrapped things up okay I guess, but I've long since lost interest in all the shenanigans. But it was gutsy of them to
not rescind Michael's death - very chilling/touching ending.
C.

Buncha S1 episodes of Nero Wolfe. Lightweight fun, love Maury Chaykin and Timothy Hutton. B.

S3 of Dexter - Didn't quite match the heights of the A+ first two seasons, but still a solid A. Chief complaint: in the eternal balance between Sympathetic Dexter who the audience loves and Scary Dexter who the audience fears (the balance creating a character we love to fear, and fear for), they've got too far to the Sympathetic Dexter side. I just subscribed to Showtime for the first time because it looks like S4 will
restore the Dark Dexter balance, and embark on the Deb Finds Out the Truth plotline
- and for that, I cannot wait another year!!! Yes, they finally overcame my cheapskate resistance to premium cable.

Dollhouse: slightly above average. still boring.
Philly: funny as always
Community: shows promise
Office: funny as always
Parks: moderately funny
SNL Thursdays: above average funny.
Cougar Town: surprisingly funny, will keep watching
Heroes: I feel like the characters are good again, let's see how the evil carnies work out. moderately good.
Big Bang: funny as always
2.5 Men: sub par episode. hate the fiancee.
Accidentally on Purpose: not funny. not gonna watch anymore.

On VHS to watch still: Flashforward, Fringe, How I Met Your Mother (waiting for DVD to catch on last season before I can watch this one live!)

I knew I could count on you two. :)

NCIS 3x14 Light Sleeper A pretty good episode.
NCIS 3x15 Head Case [A] Some really good character moments in this episode. Gibbs is softening up a little bit.

On TV:
Fast Forward 01x01: A+
Eastwick 01x01: B-
The Forgotten 01x01: B
NCIS 07x01: A-
NCIS: LA 01x01: B-
Castle 02x01: A-

On DVD:
Sanctuary - Season 1
These episodes varied in rank from A to D (gave a D to the stupid fight club episode and the even more stupid giant-bug-in-the-warehouse with a TV camera crew episode; gave an A to any of the episodes involving John and the rest of The Five)

Weeds - Season 1
Sorry...just not seeing what the big draw is to this show. Episodes varied in rank from B+ to C-. Elizabeth Perkins character, however, gets an A+.

Californication - Season 1
Okay...I REALLY wanted to like this show, being a hard-core X-Files fan. But I simply cannot buy David Duchovney as a slovenly, womanizing, jackass pig. Not much variation in the episode quality of this show, so I'll rank the entire first season as one rank - B

Flashforward Pilot: very cool opening but I sincerely doubt this will sustain interest over an entire season/series. The premise screams mini-series to me. ... Doctor Who The Next Doctor on DVD. nothing stellar but any Dr Who warms the cockles of my heart. plus points for the Cyber King! ... The IT Crowd Season Three. Very funny. I really like this show. I did sorely miss the vampire dude though, I was disappointed he didn't appear once.

TOS - Bread and Circuses.

This is a pretty fun episode. I love the satire of television featured in this episode, especially the Romans being concerned with poor ratings. very funny considering Star Trek's own ratings problem. The episode features one of the best Spock/McCoy scenes in the whole series, some effective action scenes, and Shatner gets some good scenes to strut his Shatner stuff. This episode is also of interest for further clarifying the prime directive, which had been used before (most notably in The Apple) but is given a larger focus here. The only downside to this episode is the religious Christian factor, which I always found to be very out of place in Star Trek.

The SNL Season Premiere was absolutely unfunny and Megan Fox played a slutty vapid whore in every single sketch I **** you not. It's funny 'cause the Thursday SNL is pretty funny, but I don't think I laughed once last night. Well, maybe a brief chuckle for the Optimus Prime digital short.

Oh right, I forgot Heroes. Maybe I should check my avatar more often. :rommie: Mixed bag - Peter, Matt, Nathan and um ahem Sylar's stories are good; Claire's is middling; can't figure out what purpose Tracey, Hiro and Ando serve on the show; new carnies are intriguing. B-.

Also, I said Fringe in my post above when I meant Flash Forward. Some show with an F.

Flash Forward - 1.01 - No More Good Days: C
“No More Good Days” does everything you need a premiere installment to do: establish context and characters, introduce themes and story arcs, and present it all in a competent production. But aside from those production values, there’s very little to the episode that surpasses expectations.

The Jay Leno Show 1x09 (Hugh Laurie) - There was this incredibly dumb Cops & Doctors & Lawyers sketch and a really unfunny ending segment. I'll probably only be tuning in on Mondays for Headlines from now on. Leno is just generally uncomfortable looking on set, especially during his "10 at 10" segment.

The season premiere of Law & Order. It really kind of sucked.

Okay, torture is bad. Fine. WE GET IT. And those involved should answer for it, but that's not Jack McCoy's job to single handedly do that.

Simpsons: above average. Cleveland Show: watchable but not as good as AD or FG. Family Guy: classic episode. love the Brian & Stewie adventure episodes with a SF twist. American Dad: one of their better episodes, the 'Nam re-enactment on a golf course was hilarious.

The Cleveland Show [C] - Oh boy... it's going to have to work hard to distinguish itself. Cleveland is just so darn likable though.

Family Guy 8x01 Road to the Multiverse [A] - better than anything from last season. Glad to see this show is making good episodes again.

NCIS: LA 1x02 The Only Easy Day [A] - this episode was a huge step up from the pilot... and what a great ending.

Hank 1x01 [B-] I think it has the potential to be a good show. Kelsey Grammar is funny but the wife could be a little funnier. I realize this was just a setup episode and I'm interested to see what plots are coming up. It just kind of makes me miss Back to You.

The Middle [B+] Not a lot of laughs but it could end up being funny too... Neil Flynn and Patricia Heaton are playing their normal characters (Deborah and Janitor).

SVU, season 11 episode 2 - i.e. that stupid episode with that guy from Will and Grace.

That being said, it's about the most blood I've ever seen in a single L&O ep of any series...

^I think last season's episode Persona had more blood (the abused wife getting stabbed. Blood just gushing everywhere).

Last week's Bones-Bond in the Boot. A for that ewwww but ROTFLMAO beginning- entertaining episode all around. I keep saying the books are way better, but the show is just fun.

House- Epic Fail- B (good). Great House/Wilson stuff as House tries to figure out his post-drug life. Loved the game stuff, case kind of meh, bored with Thirteen and Foreman.

Glee 1x05 Rhodes not Taken It's far-fetched, but watchable. Judging by the promos, next week is going to be a much better episode. I don't think this show really has anything to do for its second year. After they go through all the competition stuff this year, what's there to do?

Just started watching my Life on Mars DVD set. Watched the episode with the two different NYPD squads that have a long standing rivalry but they team up to take down a Russian mobster. Some hilarious moments (Russian mobster: "You hit like a girl!" Chris Skelton: <knees mobster in the personal region>). And Gene Hunt's hot daughter was in it.

Hank was pretty middling I don't think I'll bother to keep watching. Cougar Town still funny. Heroes was good. 2.5 Men was alright. Big Bang... uh I've already forgotten the episode now! On DVD I'm watching Primeval S3 and enjoying that. I'm also finally getting to see Mother S4 so that's awesome.
