The new animated movie, Ratchet & Clank, based on the popular video game series was released today. The movie is loosely based on the events of the first game in the series and features both returning cast members from the game, and a supporting cast made of up some bigger names.
Description from Wikipedia said:
The film is an origin story that retells the events of the original Ratchet & Clank, depicting how Ratchet and Clank met each other as they attempt to save the Solana Galaxy from being destroyed by Chairman Drek and the Blarg. However, the film expands on various plot points in greater detail, and incorporates some elements from later series entries, such as the introduction of Doctor Nefarious and the Galactic Rangers.

Sadly the critical reaction hasn't been very good:
Rotten Tomatoes: 23%
Metacritic: 30/100

My mom and I both huge fans of the games, so despite the bad review we decided to go see, and we're glad we did, it was actually a lot of fun. There was nothing amazing about it, but it was still just a lot of silly fun. If you like the games, then I think there's a pretty good chance that you will like this.
If the audience we were with is anything to go by I don't see this doing very well. The only people in the theater were us, and what appeared to be a group of mentally handicapped people.
My favorite parts:
I love that they brought back the cast from the games. After all of these years I couldn't imagine other voices for Ratchet, Clank, Nefarious, or Qwark, so I was thrilled they brought their voice actors back.
We see a lot of the gadets and weapons in from the games.
During a big battle between the good guys, a group of good robots, and a group of bad robots, one of the robots falls off a bridge and they use the Wilhelm scream. After he falls one of the other robots leans over the bridge and yells "WILHELM!!!!"

I'd give it a solid Above Average.

And that should be a perfect end to the ever increasingly lame "joke" of using the Wilhelm scream in a movie. It's neither funny or clever anymore, but that was a good use of it.

I do get a kick out of picking out the Scream in movies and shows, but I it can be kind of distracting at the same time.

One I remebered one other joke I loved, when they first meet Clank scans Ratchet, and while he's trying to figure out what species he is several possibilities pop up on screen, including Daxter from Jak & Daxter, a regular human, and Sly Cooper from the Sly Cooper games. The same studio that made R&C is also making a Sly Cooper movie, so now I'm hoping that maybe Daxter's appearance is a hint that they might be doing Jak & Daxter too.

I've never played the games but a couple of my friends have, so they dragged me to the movie last week. I suppose it was OK. Anything with Armin Shimerman and/or Sylvester Stallone is OK by me. Qwark was a fun character. But Ratchet & Clank themselves felt underdeveloped. And there were times where the entire movie just felt like a bunch of video game cut scenes edited together.

I love the scream. I get disappointed if I don't hear it in every movie.

We need to re-edit Casablanca to put it in when Ugate dies! :p

That would get me to watch it. I never have because its not a type of movie I'm even remotely interested in, but the scream makes a lot of things better (although admittedly not everything). Heck, if they replaced the entire audio track of a bunch of old "classic" movies with the scream, and I'd watch it. It would help more people get into "classic" movies

Honestly, you should watch Casablanca anyway. It's one of those rare, classic, "over-hyped" movies that actually totally lives up to the hype.

Well, I hate romance movies, and I'm not overly fond of older movies anyway. I'm not saying its bad, its just not something I'd ever watch. Unless they added the scream, of course ;)

It's not a romance. It's a WWII-era thriller/morality play about the French Resistance that also has a prominent romantic subplot which mostly exists to further complicate the Resistance storyline.

But I realize I am diverging WAY off topic. Sorry. :o:sigh:
