The new animated movie, Ratchet & Clank, based on the popular video game series was released today. The movie is loosely based on the events of the first game in the series and features both returning cast members from the game, and a supporting cast made of up some bigger names.
Returning Cast:
James Arnold Taylor as Ratchet
David Kaye as Clank
Jim Ward as Captain Qwark
Armin Shimerman as Dr Nefarious
New Cast:
Paul Giamatti as Chairman Drek
John Goodman as Grimroth Razz
Bela Thorne as Cora
Rosario Dawson as Elaris
Sylvester Stallone as Victor Von Ion
Vincent Tong as Brax
Sadly the critical reaction hasn't been very good:
Rotten Tomatoes: 23%
Metacritic: 30/100
My mom and I both huge fans of the games, so despite the bad review we decided to go see, and we're glad we did, it was actually a lot of fun. There was nothing amazing about it, but it was still just a lot of silly fun. If you like the games, then I think there's a pretty good chance that you will like this.
If the audience we were with is anything to go by I don't see this doing very well. The only people in the theater were us, and what appeared to be a group of mentally handicapped people.
My favorite parts:
I love that they brought back the cast from the games. After all of these years I couldn't imagine other voices for Ratchet, Clank, Nefarious, or Qwark, so I was thrilled they brought their voice actors back.
We see a lot of the gadets and weapons in from the games.
During a big battle between the good guys, a group of good robots, and a group of bad robots, one of the robots falls off a bridge and they use the Wilhelm scream. After he falls one of the other robots leans over the bridge and yells "WILHELM!!!!"
I'd give it a solid Above Average.
Trailer:Description from Wikipedia said:The film is an origin story that retells the events of the original Ratchet & Clank, depicting how Ratchet and Clank met each other as they attempt to save the Solana Galaxy from being destroyed by Chairman Drek and the Blarg. However, the film expands on various plot points in greater detail, and incorporates some elements from later series entries, such as the introduction of Doctor Nefarious and the Galactic Rangers.
