Rassilon (Possible New Who Spoiler)

FalTorPan

Vice Admiral

In "The End of Time, Part Two," Timothy Dalton's Time Lord was addressed as "Rassilon." Is this the same Rassilon who was seen in "The Five Doctors?" Was he resuscitated somehow in the Time Lords' desperation to win the Time War? If the Master can be revived, then why not Rassilon? Is this Rassilon merely named after the original?

I think we're just supposed to assume that it's THE Rassilon. How he came back is up to the viewer really (I go with the "Resurrected by desperate Time Lords" theory myself), but if the Master can have huge gaps of time between appearances, then certainly others can, too.

Yeah, I agree. If the Time Lords can resurrect The Master to fight in the war, why not resurrect Rassilon to lead the fight?

They already have a way to bring him back, if they choose to. That glove he was wearing looks suspiciously like Torchwood's resurrection glove. That could be used to bring back Rassilon just as The Master's ring was used to bring him back, could it not? Perhaps it fell a few years back through time after TEOT and Torchwood found it...

Yes, I noticed that, too. Fascinating...

My theory about that glove is that the one Torchwood found is in fact ancient Timelord technology, and it was they who created them in the first place, back in Rassilon's day, maybe even Rassilon himself that created it.

Hell, the Master came back from the dead. All they had to do for Rassilon is transmat over to his tomb and reverse whatever process they used to trap him there. One quick regeneration and he's off and running.

Hang on, the glove was supposed to be the "Hand of Omega" wasn't it?

I wonder if that makes Torchwood's resurrection glove another Hand of Omega, too. After all, Omega's got to have two hands :)

Ahem, but also, it wouldn't be the first time in the Whoverse that humans gave an object a name, only to find out either its true purpose and/or its real name down the line.

I watched a little of Remembrance of the Daleks with my daughter today and wondered if that RTD finale was a continuity boob.

Either that or the wibbly-wobbly-timey-wimey effect meant that the seventh Doctor somehow got it after the Time Wars ended :wtf:

I need to correct myself. It seems thats Torchwood's glove was a rightie and Rassilon's was a leftie.

It'd be interesting to see some up close photos of both gloves to see if they are a matching set.

Wikipedia says that after Rememberance.. the hand made it's way back to Gallifrey.

Perhaps this was covered in a novel or audio or something..

They showed the other glove on Torchwood during the second season. It has a similar function to the first, but slightly different outcome.

Did look similar though. Might even be the same prop.

Did they? I don't even remember that. So much for my theory.

I did some screencaps of They Keep Killing Suzie, not great quality, unfortunately I'm using WMP12 (POS). Been a while since I saw the ep, they did mention a knife made out of the same metal as the glove, which would lead me to believe it's not time-lord tech. I don't see them using a knife for anything.

Still maybe the same prop anyway.

Well, let's be honest... a big metal glove looks like a big metal glove. Knowing how RTD loooooves to interconnect everything, I wouldn't put it past him for Rassilon's glove to imply that the Torchwood gloves were Time Lord tech.
