Rare Photos for October 2009! Happy Halloween!

OK, so, it's only October 1st. So what? Happy Halloween! :p

Working on borrowed time tonight; my ISP decided to do system maintenance! Yay! :klingon: -- And wouldn't you know? Half way through typing this my connection went out, so I'm just sitting here waiting to press the 'submit' button when it comes back. Mother Frakker ISP! It's been 5 hours since I wrote this originally, and only now am I able to post it!

Here is the link for the October edition: http://www.trekcore.com/specials/thumbnails.php?album=58

My Favorites:

2nd Row, Left: There are Literally At Least a Dozen Variants of the TMP Cast Photo. But this one is special. Look at Scotty's Outfit. He never wore it in the entire flick!

3rd Row, Right: As promised, the other half of the Enterprise Finale Trio Photo. This is the finished photoshop used for the cover of TVGuide.

5th Row, Right: Well this certainly makes my star point north... uh, erm, I mean... Jolene Blalock in costume takes a break from the on location heat while filming 'North Star'...

6th Row, Center: Does that photo not scream James T. Kirk? Why on earth did they use the one where he looks evil and mean as the official ST:VI portrait instead of this awesome looking shot?

Page 2

2nd Row, Left: This is actually a publicity still of Patrick Stewart from First Contact, believe it or not. Taken in his holodeck Dixon Hill tuxedo outfit. It's pretty damn elusive, too, though less so than last month's commando vest one.

3rd Row, Right: SUPER High Resolution and Rare Publicity Photos of Avery Brooks as Captain Benjamin Sisko. Not sure if it's season 4 or 5, though I lean towards 5. It's a unique backdrop though, not the standard for either seasons set. I've had this one for years, and have it signed.

4th Row, Center: George Takei with his head wrapped in a towel. What else must I say? How did anyone ever *not* know he was gay before? :p

5th Row, Center: The Trek Trinity in a previously unseen photo from the filming of Star Trek V: The Final Frontier.

What Are Your Favorites??

Some great photos in this set - my all-time favorite, though, is the 5th Row center pic on page two, from Star Trek V. I've never seen this picture before and love it!

I love the Boothby shot. I'm a big Ray Walston fan.
Same here -- that's a great shot.

In the TNG "creators and commanders" pic, is that Berman at the far left?

Was amused by the expression on Dorn's face in this one -- it's like "I know, Frakes, I know. Can we just do the damn shot? I want to go home."

Not sure which pic this 7 of 9 shot was rejected in favor of, but I like this one. The funeral group shot from ENT is also very nice.

Yep.

From Left to Right...

Rick Berman, Patrick Stewart, Jonathan Frakes, Gene Roddenberry, Bob Justman.

Word.

The entire set (on black background) was rejected for that year. The set chosen for Season 5 where instead the ones with them amongst rocks, or them against a wall in the ready room/briefing room, with a washed-out look. You can see them in the Voyager PB gallery, sorted by season, if you like. And other Rejects from that set of Paris and Torres as well are around on the site. :)

It's astounding to dig into the publicity photos. For TNG, it's like pulling hairs to get a hold of more than 3 or 4 from over the 7 years of any 1 character. For Voyager, there are 3 or 4 PER SEASON in most cases of the same person. TOS is a jumbled categorized mess. DS9 is the most even and balanced of the shows, but they have a tendency to not get everyone -- there is no season 7 shot for Worf, O'Brien, or Bashir. At all. Period. Enterprise did alright, but they are the only show to have not done a set at all for a season - season 4 recieved no pb photos.

I've got to say, TrekCore, courtesy me, lol, has the most expansive and complete collection of publicity photos in existence outside the paramount archives. And even with that, and hundreds of pictures, it's still only about 65% of what was *released* and only about 10% of what *exists* (as when they take a PB photo, like any photoshoot, they snap off dozens - or hundreds - of variations... I've got some test sheets from VGR to show such.)

Nice photos this month, thank you!

I love the one of Blalock. Wow!
I'm surprised at the resolution on the Uhura photo, very impressive.

How do you get your hands on these rare photos anyway? Just a long time collecting?

This photo shoot is discussed in "Chekov's Enterprise". They all went in the day after principal photography had wrapped, IIRC. They were allowed to choose their favourite outfit each. Note that Persis chose her Ilia robe (to show off her legs) but is not wearing the little red throat mechanism: so this is Ilia at leisure, not the Ilia Probe!

I could tell you, but I'd have to vaporize you. :p

Oh, and Frontier: for creating the most expansive and complete collection of photos outside of the Paramount archives, I raise my glass of Romulan ale to you. You're a gentleman and a Trekkie Scholar :)

Truth be told, I give the paramount archives a bit of a run for their money. The head of Creation Entertainment once asked me for help identifying some of my rare photo finds so he could locate the rights to them for use at conventions.

Awesome! I love to know the details behind such stuff. :)

That one is now my wallpaper.

Whenever I acquire super-HR stuff, I try to include it. You'll see just such a super-HR photo of De Kelley as Doctor McCoy in an upcoming issue. :)

Therin--

Thank you, that newsweek link is amazing! I went to to my 1st convention in 1986, it was fun but nothing like that. The last was 2006 in Los vegas, alot of people and peices but no real spirit not like those days. I wish Trek could retain that sweet trueness it once had.

That one pic of the dealer's table can't be from the 70s. Half the stuff there was released in 1991 for the 25th anniversary. There's even a few TNG items.

Still, it's a cool little photo tribute :)
