Rare Photos for July 2009!

A lot of my favorites this month seem to be TOS/TMP related. Not sure why. :)

Page 1, row one, center: Avery Brooks directs season 3's 'The Abandoned'.

Third row, left: William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy chow-down between takes on the set of the Original Series.

Sixth row, left: publicity photo of James Doohan from Star Trek: Generations.

Page 2, row 2, left: Rare Variant of DeForest Kelley's final publicity photo as Dr. Leonard McCoy.

Fifth row, left: George Takei and William Shatner share a laugh while filming 'The Wrath of Khan'.

Sixth row, right: Publicity photo of Denise Crosby as Tasha Yar and Patrick Stewart as Jean-Luc Picard.

For some extra fun, take a look at page one, second row left. Which TWOK actors from the Genesis Cave scene can you identify?

Seriously, Frontier, some really great pics this month. You're a treasure for doing this for us all.

I love that picture of Majel and Gene. Very sweet, and quite poignant now. The pic of Frakes directing with the hat is one of my favourites, and I think there is a slight variation of that somewhere on my hard drive. I'm interested that the picutre that De Kelley is standing by in his VI publicity shot looks very much like that freaky painting that is in the Enterprise D's sickbay. And that pic of Shat and Hicks laughing is lovely, too.

:adore:, Frontier.

It is, indeed, the same 'freaky' painting from Sickbay. Remember, for ST:V and VI the E-D Sickbay was barely re-dressed and used as the E-A's as well. ;)

No, I don't remember that. I think I'm losing my geek credentials!

I love seeing these new pictures every month. Just wanted you to know that it's appreciated!

I like the one of the Voyager crew with the books, do you/does anyone know what that was taken for? Also like the one on the first page of Brooks directing.

This made me laugh. "Drone? What drone?"

That one of Majel & Gene is just lovely.

Thanks again for putting these together!

I'd kill for a higher-resolution copy of the Voyager books one. It was from a literacy promotion bookmark. The TOS cast did one back in 1991 as well, a variant of their final cast shot. The Voyager one though was done mid-way or end of season 3, as Kes has her long hair, which defines the time, as in the season 3 pb photos, she's still short-haired.

Shatner sure seemed to amuse Takei a lot! Two different shots of George cracking up at him.

Nice to see them getting along!

Re. VOY books: are those the actors' faves, or books that correspond to the character? The Doctor has "Dr. Jekyll," B'lanna [sp] has the Bell Jar, and she's pretty emotional. I can't tell what the others are.

I was looking at this one and thinking the guy in the striped shirt (standing behind the seated alien) looked familiar and couldn't place him. Finally realized you'd had another picture of him some time ago with most of the Voyage Home main cast, and that it was Kirk Thatcher, associate producer and punk on bus (who's now affectionately enshrined forever in the caption contests as "Vomit".)

Also noticed the two shots of Takei laughing and wondered whether there was a history of deliberate attempts by Shatner to crack George up on-set. (I recall practical-joke stories from other casts, particularly the Voyager crew's Russ, RDM and Phillips, and there's always the Nimoy's bicycle stunt by Shatner himself.)

Liked the shot of Brooks directing, too, as well as the location candid from "Arena".

Great stuff as always, Frontier. This month, however, may be exceptionally good. ;)

Me too! I love that B'Elanna is reading "The Bell Jar" and the EMH is reading "Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde." Perhaps this was around the filming of "Darkling"? :rommie:

Never get tired of these awesome, awesome pictures.

The De Kelley one is particularly great.

Just wait for next month. I have a De Kelley photo in there that will blow everyone's socks off! It's a beautiful artistic candid shot during the film of ST4, and it's truly something! :)

I'm really glad that everyone so enjoys these. I wish TrekToday or TrekMovie would put a little news blip about them each month, so more folks could see them. They're really a labor of love, and I hope to continue them indefinitely.

It really does mean a lot to read the comments each month from all of you. Not to mention it helps bump the thread up and get more people to check it out!

Say, these are worthy of a Trek Today or Trek Movie news blip. If I hadn't seen these threadsd, I don't think I would have discovered them, and that would have made me sad. Well, since I wouldn't have known they existed, I guess I wouldn't have been sad per se. But you get my point. :rommie:

Kirk and Spock having a lunch break was great.

But I liked the whole set of pictures, Frontier. Thanks for posting them.

Sean

Yes, the Voyager Literacy photo is probably my favorite one of the bunch, but being a lifelong McCoy fan, his poster is a very close second there.

Go tell the news editors that for me. :p

Badass. I can't wait.

And yeah, people should be plugging the hell out of these. They're outstanding.
