"Rare" Doctor Who material

I've got that film can in my attic of the doctor at that Vulcan colony with those pepper pot things.

Might get rid of it. Just wasting space.

Oh look, a furnace.

For God's sake! STOP!!!!!

Don't you know how bad for the environment burning celluoid is? :p

There's that Big Finish Colin Baker story with Romana II (voiced by Lalla Ward) as the timelord president which has the Daleks attacking Gallifrey. Seemed very time-warish to me.. I can't recall the title offhand though.
The Apocalypse Element, which was part of the Dalek Empire four-part crossover. I thought that serial was absolutely abysmal.
The only interesting thing about the story was Romana's imprisonment for 20 years but I felt like that wasn't capitialized on enough beyond her becoming sterner.

I've listened to the first few Gallifrey Chronicles with Romana I, Romana II, Leela & K9 in them, but they were a bit crap imo. All that nonsense with non-Gallifreyans being allowed in at the academy didn't sit well with me, and the political intrigue stuff with the Celestial Interventian Agency is rather boring imo..
The first few stories are a bit slow, I admit, but they're busy laying out the ground for the future. The series really picks up (in my mind) with the fourth and final story of series one, A Blind Eye.

Oh I dunno, I rather liked The Apocalypse Element (thanks for that btw). Big Finish Colin was in his usual fine form, and the chemistry between the Sixth Doc and Romana was good I thought.

'Course it could just be that it, the other 3 Dalek Empire crossovers and not to mention Dalek Empire itself helped keep me sane during the recovery period after my surgery..

*Kisses his mp3 player*

I, too, disliked The Apocalypse Element. But, my main thing is "Evelyn" makes me writhe in agony every moment she is present. What IS it about you Brits and the "kind and witty elderly" characters? Wilf was the same way. Drove me crazy. Couldn't wait to get away from him...

There are ppl who dislike Wilf!? I hadn't considered that possible!

Americans you see, they don't really experience their old folks like we do, they turn them into food. I saw it in a documentary once...I think Charlton Heston narrated it.

If his reproduction hadn't resulted in Donna, I'd like him more.

No, I did like him. Having the doddery old codger as the companion was the best thing about The End of Time.

I agree that the chemistry between The Sixth Doctor and Roman was good, but Evelyn had very little to do and there was far too much loud fighting sequences and not enough plot.

Ah, well, then I forgive you for liking the story. ;)

I've got a VHS copy of "The Curse of the Fatal Death." It's pretty cool. (I used to work at a used bookstore. All the other employees knew I was a Doctor Who fan, so I always got 1st look at the incoming Doctor Who merchandise. I remember one day I was dealing with a particularly difficult customer. Just when I thought my life was at rock bottom, someone traded in the DVD box set of "The Trial of a Time Lord.":techman:)

16. Independent spin-off videos. BBV and Reeltime produced a number of independent films during the 1990s and early 2000s utilizing a wonderful loophole that allowed them to licence non-BBC-owned characters direct from the writers. As a result a series of Auton and Sontaran productions were made, many featuring Doctor Who actors in lead and supporting roles. And there was Wartime, a UNIT story starring John Levene as Benton. Many of the names associated with the revival series - Nicholas Briggs, Mark Gatiss to name two - worked on these. And there was even a "series" called PROBE, which was sort of a Fringe/Threshold/X-Files type of thing starring Caroline John as Liz Shaw (with Louise Jameson as her associate, but not playing Leela). Another notable release was 1995's Downtime featuring Debbie Watling as Victoria in an adventure alongside Nick Courtney as the Brigadier and Lis Sladen as Sarah Jane! And this was years before James Cawley came on the scene with his Star Trek productions. A few of these I believe have received limited DVD release aside from VHS issue, but by their very nature they're pretty rare. These companies also released audio dramas which likewise are hard to come by. (And I won't even go into the other spinoffs - Kaldor City, Time Hunter and Faction Paradox.)

Why won't you go into them? I'm intrigued & have no idea what you're talking about. Those are usually the two perfect reasons to continue talking to me.;)

No, thank goodness!
Decades later and still hated! Does Wesley Crusher have this to look forward to?

Adric is at least 5 times worse than Wesley Crusher. Besides, I've met Wil Wheaton at several conventions and he's pretty damn awesome. He's got a razor sharp wit. You do not want to go toe-to-toe with that guy. I guarantee you that he's more clever than you, even on your best day.;)

Shada would have been a cracker of a Doug Adams / Tom Baker story imo if they hadn't of had the union strike.

BTW, considering they had already shot so much of the story, why didn't they resume production on it once the strike was over? You'd think it would have been a smart decision, budget-wise.

Big Finish for a fiver? Sounds good to me. Has anybody worked the Big Finish stories into the TV timeline? And do the Gallifrey stories lay any groundwork for the Time War?

IIRC, Big Finish has to be really careful about that sort of thing. Technically, the Time War is part of the new series and Big Finish only licences the rights to the old series.

I used to have a VHS copy of that faux documentary where they put Doctor Who on trial for sexism. My favorite part was when they teleported Sophie Aldred into the courtroom to testify and the judge tried to ease her into it gently.
"I'm sure this must all seem very strange & confusing to you."
"Don't worry about me. I was in 'Ghost Light.'":guffaw:
