Raped my childhood

Most definitely the first time I ever heard it used was in reference to the Special Edition version of Star Wars, then The Phantom Menace. Then it became really popular. Who or where was the first? Who knows.

Yeah, I believe the first I recall hearing it was after the whole "Han shot first" thing got started when the Special Editions came out.

You know, I always found the saying a little offensive. It's just one of those things you just shouldn't joke about.

^

I think it's the perfect phrase for all those great cartoons that they made into damn live action movies.

Yeah, I think you're right. Definitely heard it first with the whole Han/Greedo controversy.

Whoever coined it needs an award.

Or a punch in the face.

Or an award shaped like a fist, which is then used to punch him in the face. That would work.

I'm in the same boat here, as I personally know a few people who have been raped and have worked with women who've been raped. Seeing the emotional and physical toll it takes on the victim, it's the one thing I can't joke about.

People who use that phrase need a swift kick to the head with a steel toed boot. That just might upped their intelligence by a few points.

Perhaps we should change it to "Vandalized my childhood." It's more like car-keying than rape, after all. ;)

Wow, you support that phrase. I'm so shocked.

How weak-minded and pathetic does one have to be to claim that something in the present can retroactively destroy what you enjoyed as a child? One has nothing to do with the other. It's not like some shrink is putting false memories into your head about being molested as a kid.

This is right up there with the people who loved Falling Down and The Lost Boys suddenly deciding that everything Joel Schumacher touches is crap because of Batman & Robin and that none of his movies were ever good or enjoyed by you.

I think it would be fitting for people who bitch and moan about childhoods being raped to spend a few days in a maximum security prison. However, considering the nature of many internet posters, I'm guessing that the most hardened criminals wouldn't want to look, touch or even go near some of them.

I support freedom of speech, more so if it's just a dumb phrase.

It's like saying "That's so gay", even through everyone who has ever said that has sounded rather gay when they have said it, it's still just a stupid saying. Sure it's offensive, but you should honestly have been things to bitch about than lame ass phrases.

+1. We can't just say Batman & Robin is a bad movie, which is certainly is, we have declare some sort of vendetta against all involved. I'm glad I didn't do that, otherwise I wouldn't have watched the many George Clooney movies I've thoroughly enjoyed since.

Hey, I support the freedom for people to sound as stupid as they want to be as well. Just like I have the freedom to tell them they sound stupid.

I think it's offensive and stupid. Offensive because it trivializes the physical and emotional trauma of real rape victims. Some folks must live in a very small world if they think that George Lucas tinkering with his damned movies is even remotely equivalent to sexual assault.
