If I were ever to be tourtured and they were gonna play a song every morning on full blast to startle me into submission, it would be the ENT theme song.

It’s been a long road...

The only theme I consider worth listening to on a regular basis is Horner's theme to Wrath of Khan.

The only Star Trek music score album that I have ever purchased is TMP.

That is like the blueprint for all future Trek music. Except Star Trek 4. I don't know what the deal was with that music. At least Jerry returned for four more movies and the Voyager theme!

Personally, I hope CBS runs into a "rights issue" and changes the ENT theme to something instrumental, such as the end credits music! There are many YouTube videos of the ENT main titles with the end credit music. My favorite one that I can't find anymore had various spacey audio clips including Neil Armstrong's "one small step", and Spock's "space the final frontier" at the very end.

Of the ones listed, DS9's is my favorite. But "Enterprising Young Men" from the Kelvin Timeline movies is the one that's stuck in my head these days.

1. DS9--the original theme.
2. DS9--the faster version.
3. Voyager--Extremely high on the hummability scale.
4. TNG--Recycled classic.:techman:
5. TOS--The whooshes! The opera! The Shatner! 60's fun.
6. Enerprise-- I had to put it somewhere on the list.
7. Discovery--It's not bad, it just isn't very memorable.
8. TAS--Conjures up a creepy image of Kirk holding a martini and smarming into the camera, "The name ish Kirk, Jamesh Kirk, baby!":vulcan:

1 (by a big margin): TOS. they got it right the first time.
2: Voyager, its beautiful and somehow the music is just right for the plot of the show
3: TAS (its funky! your feet move when you hear this play. you may even find yourself chair dancing. you wont want to admit it, but you do)
4: Discovery (I like it but i don't want to hear it all the time)
5: TNG (I don't like it. i don't hate it. I just heard it too much and it's way too brassy)
6: DS9: It's inoffensive and dull. I think it's the Cardassian Muzak Garek plays in his shop.
7: ENT: if you've got faith.. if you've got faith.. faith of the heart, this theme will pull it out of one of your body orifices and throw it on the road and squeal tires over it till its gone.

1. Voyager

2. The original Enterprise theme(This could even be #1. It's so good)

3.TOS

4. DS9(Even though I put VOY at number one, both this one and Voyager's theme are way too long.

5. TNG(When I was a kid, I liked this one. It was very exciting. Now it annoys the crap outta me. Also too long)

I'd probably put the actual Enterprise pop theme that we got at number 4 or 5.

...however, if we include the movie themes, the top three are-
1. TNG movie theme from FC onward(I'd describe it as Emotional, dark but hopeful, and sincere)

2. TOS movie theme from TWoK onward. It makes me think of a journey to a strange world, a frightening adventure

3. JJ Movie theme(Don't deny it. It's really good. I would describe it as "Adventure-Wonder-action!)

I feel the FC theme is the strongest of these 3 as the latter two are a little more repetitive, and don't stir up the emotion in me like #1

I'm pretty sure I did the TV series already in this thread. But if we're doing films:

1. TUC
2. TMP
3. FC
4. NEM
5-13. The rest. I don't dislike any of them, but the above stand out. Not that James Horner doesn't stand out, but Jerry Goldsmith and especially Cliff Eidelman are more my style. I'll actually listen to those soundtracks independent of watching the movies.

For TV, I think it's still the same. Excluding TOS and TNG, I rank the scores as:

DSC
VOY
DS9
ENT

"Faith of the Heart" is NOT my style of music. If they wanted a pop song to appeal to a younger generation (and I was 22 when this series premiered, so I was who they should've been trying to reach!), they should've let Brannon Braga pick the song instead of Rick Berman. Brannon Braga wanted to go with U2's "Beautiful Day". I don't know what Baby Boomers prefer but, as a Gen Xer, I'd take "Beautiful Day" over "Faith of the Heart" any day.

Both of DS9's themes fit where the series was at those points, but I prefer VOY's theme because it feels more majestic. DSC's inspires my imagination, though. I like the melody and how it changes tempos. It sounds more dynamic.

But how can you rank the lyrical VGR theme and the expansive DS9 statement below DSC’s indifferent, somewhat cynical score that fails to inspire? And putting anything of Goldsmith’s below TUC is quite unusual (I like it, especially the opening theme, but it sounds more like something Danny Elfman might have come up with for Batman).

DSC and VOY are a tougher call than I let on. I like both themes for different reasons. It's entirely possible my choice is bias due to the fact that I prefer Discovery as a series. Let's be honest, who would really predict I wouldn't put DSC at the top, if I eliminated TOS? This is me we're talking about. :p

With the first DS9 theme, I have no problem with it, but it just feels "there". Then again DS9 is also just sitting there. The second DS9 theme, I like it, I really do, but not as much as I did before.

Tim Burton's version of Batman is my favorite on film. The Hell with Joel Schumacher or (yes I'm going to say it) Christopher Nolan. Throw in Beetlejuice and Edward Scissorhands to go with Batman and Batman Returns and I'm a happy camper.

Pop quiz: aside from the opening theme, how many DSC themes have you noticed and could hum on request?

(Since the Bermanverse has an even poorer record, Goldsmith’s film scores aside, do the same with TOS and nBSG if you watched it and compare.)
