Rank the Best Comic films of 2014

Dales

Captain
Captain
1. Xmen DOFP

This is definitely my number 1 comic film of the year and for the last 9 years. I can speak of the endless love I have for this film. love the story, acting and social themes and the quick silver scene was to die for.

2. Captain America.

I like this film, it was solid overall but it was just too predictable. Like we all did not know who the winter solider was.

3. Amazing Spiderman 2.

I would have put this film in the second place but two things brings this film down for me.

(a) I don't like Andrew Garfield's Peter. he is very unlikeable and comes of as a punk.

(b) the villain electro was just off and did not work. Jamie Foxx was wrongfully cast.

4. Guardians of the Galaxy.

I did not get this film, its a mystery to me how much critical praise it got. I thought the film was down right unfunny and silly and terrible

Captain America: The Winter Soldier knocked it out of the park for me. X-Men and Guardians were close but CA:TWS had much more involved to it (continuity-wide included) than the rest.

Of the 4, DOFP is defo below TWS and GotC for me. Both of those are tied. Haven't seen Spiderman 2 yet, and honestly, I don't really care about it either.

For me Continuity is different from been good. WS works well in continuity because it helps set of other mcu films and it exist in a universe of other heroes.

DOFP as a stand alone film was better film of the two so much drama, depth and emotion went into that film and that is why its gets my no 1 spot.

I don't think I agree. If you had not see First Class, a lot of the emotional impact of Charles situation, for example, seem hollow. The entire end-scene is basicly void of impact without having seen the other movies. You're looking, and thinking 'ok, so these people are important for Logan, but I don't feel a thing'.

Same goes The Winter Soldier ofcourse. But I don't think DOFP works as a standalone.

1. Guardians of the Galaxy. The only movie I've seen twice in the theaters in years.

2. Captain America 2

3. X-Men: Days of Future Past

Overall, not a bad year for superhero movies!

(Haven't seen the new Spidey flick yet.)

this is why the films works because there are other films with a history. you had other films that showed Xavier and magneto on different sides and for them to reconcile in the end carried a lot of weight because you saw their struggle.

I am glad first class existed because it made people understand why xaiver cared deeply for mystique in DOFP.

the end scene was also perfect to see Scott and jean again after they were UNFAIRLY killed of in xmen 3.

Captain America 2 was what it was. an MCU you. predictable from beginning to the end.

X-Men, then Guardians of the Galaxy, then the Captain America film. I liked the first two a lot, the Captain America was pretty good but I seem to be much less impressed by it than most people.

Someone help me out?! I don't see the actual disagreement, here.

1. GOTG. loved it!
2. Winter Soldier. really great story.
3. X-Men DOFP. probably the best X-Movie. loved the huge casts both appearing.
4. ASM2. lots of problems.

To me Cap2 was the best movie, hands down. Guardians was a fairly close second (thanks mostly to Chris Pratt), but the formulaic story keeps it from being as great as it could have been I think.

DOFP was entertaining enough, but by this point I just have a hard time getting that excited about the tired humans vs mutants storyline.

And Spidey 3, while certainly watchable, just felt even more tired and unnecessary. About the only thing really worth remembering from it is how awesome the Spidey suit looked.

What? They've only done it in every X-Men and Wolverine movie. :p

Don't get me wrong, I've enjoyed them all and look forward to what's to come, but he makes a point.

1) Guardians of the Galaxy
2) Captain America: The Winter Soldier
3) X-Men: Days of Future Past

10) The Amazing Spider-Man 2

Not really what the OP was looking for, but I'd rank Birdman and Top Five (hey, it's about a stand-up comic) before ASM2.

Yes, that's about the harshest criticism I have for the film. Its formulaic plotting. But it makes up for it in other areas.

All's fair in love, war, and comic book films. :techman:

^Yeah, I raised an eyebrow to that too. He disagrees by defending you.

I thought the OP ment that he felt DOFP was the better Stand Alone film, as in you could watch it without having seen anything else and it would still make sense. I disagreed with that, however, I may have misunderstood him.

This thread should have a poll.

I agree, I should have made a poll :) but I am not really familiar with this site as I am still new. I do enjoy reading the comments. I am happy many people here are mentioning DOFP as the best, A non MCU film above the never ending saturation of the Marvel Disney machine of superhero films.
