Rank Current Superhero Animated Series

At the moment we've actually got quite a few superhero cartoons on, which is always great news. What do you think of them?

7. Super-Hero Squad: First off why the hell does this air at 6:30 in the goddamn morning on a Saturday? I've only seen like two episodes this season! Obviously this show is aimed at young children, but it is entertaining just to see all the Marvel characters thrown around. I don't care if I miss the episodes or not though.

6. Ben 10 Ultimate Alien: on the whole I find this show pretty forgettable, but the ending arc where Kevin went evil again was very cool. But the opening episodes of this series were extremely lame, and the previous season of "Alien Force" wasn't as good either.

5. Generator Rex: this is a fun little show. I like the characters and the action but the story isn't always terribly interesting.

4. Symbionic Titan: visually gorgeous at the expense of a real story. I love the look and style of this show and the action scenes are amazing... I just wish it had more of a story than "random monster drops down from space" every episode.

3. Young Justice: it's starting slow but showing promise. I haven't been knocked out of the park yet but I like all the characters thrown in the mix.

2. Avengers: the multi-part episodes have been absolutely amazing, and the single episodes have been decent. I'm really enjoying it so far.

1. Clone Wars: the first half of this season was extremely dismal, but the last six episodes were excellent. This show is back on the top of its game. Always makes me mad that I don't get Cartoon Network in HD :p

Since when was Clone Wars a superhero series?

Of the bunch you listed, I'd rank Young Justice the highest. It's well-done in just about every respect, and it has a tone and attitude that make it stand apart. I'd put Super Hero Squad on the bottom; I might enjoy it if not for the modern conviction that a children's show must be preoccupied with "humor" pertaining to unpleasant bodily functions. As it is, I find it all but unwatchable.

As for the rest, they're not as easy to rank because they're rather different. I like Avengers, but I often find it a little shallow in the story/character department because there's just too much action to leave room. It would be an even better show if it would allow itself to slow down and have more of the introspective and character-building moments that YJ has in abundance.

Generator Rex is good. It tends to overdo the "attitude," and I could do without the rather pointless talking chimp character, but it's an intriguing, original SF world and there are interesting ideas. Plus Kevin Manthei's music, when it's something other than blaring guitars, can be quite imaginative and excellent, preferable to the rather generic stuff Ritmanis, McCuistion, and Carter are doing for all of CN's other shows these days. Van Kleiss's theme in particular is one I'm quite fond of.

I like Sym-Bionic Titan too; it has more story and character stuff than you suggest, and in fact a pretty strong continuity from episode to episode. They've actually been developing the robot character Octus pretty heavily this season. And it's got all the classic Genndy Tartakovsky action and style and anime references all over. My main problem is that Tartakovsky's stated desire to develop a strong female lead hasn't really worked; Princess Ilana doesn't really come off as a particularly strong character, and her armor mode with its extremely forward-thrusting chestpiece is rather objectifying.

Ben 10: Ultimate Alien is watchable, but fairly mediocre. The first two seasons of Alien Force were superb, but everything since then has kinda been treading water.

I guess we're only covering currently airing series as of February 2011? When does Batman: The Brave and the Bold resume new episodes?

Jedi aren't superheroes? :) And it's an animated series that airs in the same block as everything else.

I completely forgot about Brave & Bold! It's been forever since they aired an episode, and they're not even re-running it. I swear Cartoon Network doesn't like the show for some reason. I wonder how it does in the ratings. Checking wikipedia, they haven't aired an episode in two and a half months, and England has gotten two episodes we haven't so far.

Anybody watch the new episode of "Symbionic Titan" last night? It was amazing. It was a prequel episode showing the actual fall of Gallaluna leading into the opening of the series. It was tragic and beautiful. It's too bad the series didn't open this way. Definitely the best episode yet.

Actually, the few flashback episodes taking place on Gallaluna have been infinitely more interesting than the high school episodes. They need to do more of these and actually return to Gallaluna sometime! Also we need more development of the evil general guy. Is he possessed by a creature? How did he ally with the Mutrati?

I am agog that My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic or Transformers Prime aren't included. Well, MLP should be included anyway. It's just like Powerpuff Girls, except with ponies. Magical talking ponies. Eyyy-up.

Okay. Insanity run deep in your family? :rommie:

1-Young Justice
2-Avengers
3-Ben 10
4-Phineas and Ferb (Hey, Perry is a superhero, right?)

I don't watch the others listed.
And I believe (no quoting!) Brave and the Bold was ended....

I don't consider Clone Wars "superheroes", btw.

No, it was announced a while back that it would end after its third season, but it's still three episodes from the end of its second season (in the US; all three have aired in the UK). Wikipedia's episode list says that the next new episode will air on April 1.
