Rank ALL the DVDs, by Doctor. Part 4: Peter Davison

Captain Pike

Rear Admiral
Rear Admiral
Welcome back to the continuing series of ranking threads by Doctor. This time it's that country-vet turned cricketing all-rounder/time-lord, Peter Davison's turn -

My rankings :

Fifth Doctor :
The Caves of Androzani
Castrovalva
Earthshock
The Visitation
Resurrection of the Daleks
Four to Doomsday *
The Five Doctors
Arc of Infinity
Black Orchid
Time-Flight
Warriors of the Deep

* Scheduled for region 2 next month, region 4 is anticipated to be late 08/early 09 for us devout classic-Who fans down-under. This is to be another "vanilla" (i.e. low budget / standard issue) release.

A reminder, as always, that this is purely on the basis of story alone - a DVD viewing is not strictly necessary and the DVD extras are not taken into account.

Please share your rankings and thoughts on these stories, and thanks to all of you for your continuing interest and input..

I know I'm going to get some grief for my low ranking of The Five Doctors. :p

The Caves of Androzani
Earthshock
Castrovalva
The Five Doctors
The Visitation
Black Orchid
Resurrection of the Daleks
Four to Doomsday
Arc of Infinity
Time-Flight
Warriors of the Deep

I think many people will have Warriors of the Deep last.

And Emh how dare you rank The Five Doctors so low :p Shame one you ;)

The Five Doctors was the only Doctor Who that I had on video growing up (I would watch Doctor Who every weeknight on TV but never had them on tape to rewatch). I used to watch it over and over and over. And I never knew that the 1st Doc was an imposter.

I got into Who starting with Eccleston. All I've seen of Davison is Warriors of the Deep... maybe I should remedy that :P

Ah, my favorite Doctor. But he didn't get the best episodes.

Earthshock
Caves of Androzoni
Resurrection of the Daleks
Warriors of the Deep (that's right, I liked it a lot!)
Enlightenment
Snakedance
Castrovalva
Kinda
The Visitation
The King's Demons
Four to Doomsday
Black Orchid
Frontios
Mawdryn Undead
The Awakening
Planet of Fire
Arc of Infinity
Time Flight
Terminus

One reason I personally ranked Castrovalva so high (apart from it being one of Peter's stronger stories) is pure nostalgia factor. I have rather vivid memories of racing home from school, kicking off the shoes and loosening the school tie and watching the ABC block of shows (for younger viewers) prior to the 7 o'clock news, which consisted of Metal Mickey, Danger Mouse, Bannanaman, etc, The Kenny Everet Video Show (really looking back on it that was not really fit for kids now was it?) The Goodies and (on one day a week, I think it was the Friday) Doctor Who, and this was one particular story which stuck in my mind - a chance to see the 'new' Doctor in his first full adventure. Cracking stuff. Even to this day, watching it brings back instant memories of those days, discussing it the following Monday during morning tea in the schoolyard, offering our thoughts how this new chap measured up to the legendary Doctors of Tom Baker and Pertwee, who was best and so on. It's a nostalgia trip.
