Random TNG episode re-watch!

So, with all the Trek series available on Netflix now, I have decided to start watching them. My ultimate plan is to watch DS9 straight through because it's the one series I haven't seen since it originally aired.

However, before I dive into seven seasons of DS9, I have decided to watch random episodes of TNG.

My quest begins with "Remember Me" from Season 4 if for no other reason than it contains the best line of dialogue of any show ever written. :p

I don't want to watch too many episodes, but I want to watch a few. Any suggestions? I'd prefer random standalones, not the "big" episodes.

Funny I decided to show my wife the rest of the DS9 series...seasons 1-4 now that it's on Netflix.

OK random STNG episode picks: I can think of 3 offhand..."First Contact"...one of the best first contact episodes from TV history, this one is probably underrated by most. "The Masterpiece Society"...not usually picked amongst the best, the episode is almost entirely philosophical, you don't see that much on TV. "Clues" A neat little mystery where the crew is overmatched and actually "loses".

My suggestions would probably be:

"Parallels" because it is actually pretty compelling, and I liked episodes that focused on Worf.

"Disaster" because it paired characters up that you wouldn't normally see together (Riker and Data/Crusher and Laforge/Troi actually in command) under very difficult circumstances for a "What Would You Do?" set of scenarios. I think this is a very underrated episode, actually.

"Face of the Enemy" because you just can't beat the shock of the opening scene. No matter how many times I see that episode, I still feel it.

"Deja Q" because I think this is the best of all Q episodes.

"Night Terrors" because it is an incredible "what the hell is going on?" episode. I'm not a fan of Troi's dream levitation, but it is still a pretty cool episode.

"Power Play" because it is one of those episodes you say "wow, I forgot about that" every time you see it.

"The Next Phase" because although I'm not a big Ensign Ro fan, I thought pairing her character with LaForge under the circumstances turned out extremely well.

"Data's Day" is pretty good, focusing on one of my favourite characters. "Schisms" is a good mystery episode. I must second "Cause and Effect," it is one of my favourites.

Contagion...the episode has it all...Lost civilizations, super technology, Romulans, a female commander who doesn't want to suck on Spock's earlobe(yes a jab at TOS's Ent Incident), exotic computer viruses, space probe threats, Picard walking onto a Rom ship, a black captain, another Galaxy class vessel, Geordi taken on a turbolift joy ride, cool FX.

At the risk of picking "The Loss" I have actually closed my eyes and pointed at my STNG database to pick a random episode.

"Aquiel" is definitely not going to make the cut. I ended up watching BOBW...which is the opposite of what I was going for.

I think I might give "Contagion" a shot. Based on RAMA's description, I don't remember it at all!

Other random episodes I kind of want to watch but can't remember the names of:

1) The one where Troi is a cake and Beverly drinks Riker's brain through a straw.

2) The one with the golden brick.

3) The one where Beverly and Geordi get trapped in the cargo bay and have to open the door to get the toxic chemicals to fly into space. Then they pass out.

4) The one with creepy Picard flashbacks where he actually has hair on his head. It might have something to do with Jack Crusher?

5) This is a toughy: It's definitely a Troi episode...and her mother is there...but her mother has some long lost family secret...or something...I have a vague recollection about Lwaxana having another baby beside Deanna?

Any idea what I'm talking about?

That's from "Phantasms." I was going to recommend that one anyway, I thought it had a good, creepy vibe to it. And it's a good, random, standalone ep.

Are you thinking of "Tapestry"? I haven't seen that ep in ages, can't remember if Jack Crusher plays a role in it or not.

No, not "Tapestry," although that's not a bad suggestion. "Play Domjot, humon!" :p

They are literally flashbacks...or dreams...possibly Beverly's dreams. I only remember thinking it was really creepy the first time I saw it.

I forgot to mention stargates!

Here you go:
1) Phantasms
2) Emergence
3) Disaster
4) Violations
5) Dark Page

Man, I haven't seriously watched Next Gen in a while. By seriously, I mean more than just sitting down and watching a favorite episode or whatever is currently on tv. And when I do sit down to watch something, it is more often to watch a DS9 episode. Can't wait for TNG-R to give it a real rewatch!

D'oh, beat me to it. :D

My suggestion for randomness is The Ensigns of Command. The Data plot is a bit average, but the side-plot with Picard up against the absurd bureaucracy of the Sheliak is pretty funny, and the pay-off is hilarious!
