Random thoughts...

Data Holmes

So, for years now I've written what I've always called random thoughts or random musings. Sometimes they are structured stuff but other times they are stream of thought segments or attempts at poetry. Anyone do something similar, and if so please share some.

Here's some of mine:

The Witching Hour.

Ah, the witching hour. My favorite time. A point of peace.
Most are in bed, and the noise of daily life has abated. Replaced
by the gentile tranquility of night. The loudest noise being
the wind rustling the leaves in the trees, a noise heightened by
their dry fall nature. The smells fill their air, cool and crisp. If but
for some more moon light, it'd be perfect. The harvest moon the
most luxurious of all the full moons being a special occasion at
this time. Tonight a simple waning crescent, a sliver, a wisp of the
silver lunar glow. the last grasp before it slips into New, to be
reborn from the dark. Ah, a lone cricket chirps it's tune. The nights
musician.

I long for the night, for the full moon light, for the witching hour's
silence. I seek it out like a moth to a flame. Drawn in by it's simplicity
and scent. It's enveloping atmosphere. It is the perfect hour. Hidden
far away from the harshness of the midday, and the gray of twilight.
My heart belongs here. The only thing missing is the accompaniment
of another. A beat of unison with my chosen one. Somewhere out
there yet to be found. The sole missing element to this perfect picture.
the absent puzzle peace. But all is not lost, for I know. That someday
I will share this moment. And then my favorite hour will truly be perfect.

The Velvet Embrace.

I sit here in the velvet embrace of yet another night. Some claim the night to be empty.
I defy you to make that claim. For the night is full. Full of thought. It's the time to
reflect, and turn inward. A time to let your mind expand beyond the daily confines of the
routine mundane. For in the depth of night, there is no distractions. Nothing to pull your
eye or ear with harsh reality. It is a time of fantasy for the soul. A time for flight. The
flight of your inner passions. You darkest desires. Your deepest fears, and your greatest
joys. Look upon your self and accept the embrace of the velveteen blanket of the night.

Poetry is deep, man. When I was on vacation in another country, I stayed in a rural, agricultural community. One of my favorite pastimes was .. doing nothing. Actually, I did a lot of reflecting and also wrote down random thoughts or musings; I had a little journal with me as I sat up on the roof of my family's house, overlooking acres and acres of rice paddies covered in green.

Tranquility

The rice plants dance
On a clear, windy day.
And their swaying creates
A sea of mesmerizing waves.

Nice work, DH; I especially like "The Witching Hour." It's very evocative of all the things I like about the night. I could just picture myself sitting out in the backyard as I read that....

I like this, too, Drone. Something I find very relaxing is the motion of plants in the wind, so this brought a peaceful sigh out of me.

Oh, thank you, RJD. It's very simplistic and I've never been good at writing poems (except limericks, maybe). :D When I was actually living back there (for a couple of years, it was my country of birth), I had plenty of time to reflect on nature and the environment. I wish I had a digital camera (or any camera) back then.

You know what was playing in my head when I sat there and wrote those words? This classical tune called Cavalleria Rusticana by Mascagni. Beautiful piece.

The simpleness is part of the appeal, as with a Haiku; it works well with the subject matter.

That's definitely a beautiful piece of music. :bolian:

That's deep. I don't scrible but u do have reflective moments.

A favorite medieval Japanese poem:

While so longingly
Oh my beloved,
I wait all alone for thee;
Swaying my hut's bamboo blind
Gently blows the taxi horn.

another of mine:

Fluid trance

A simple feeling, of floating. You lay back and relax. You close your eyes,
and steady your breathing. Your ears slip below the surface, your world
goes silent. You've entered the fluid trance. Not asleep, not aware. Your
brain has traveled somewhere else. A new realm where time slows and
there isn't a care. It is intoxicating. You don't want to leave. You hear the
muffled sounds of your mother calling you. She's yelling that it's time to
go. Now you are away from the water, in a car. Days later you long for
that feeling. You call upon the bath but it isn't the same. You ask the shower
head, and it feels like rain. Little piercing blows from the droplet streams.
Not the fluid cushion you floated on the other day. You can't wait till your next
visit to that crystal lake, and once again enter the Fluid trance.

I found another poem I wrote back in 2006 (I can't believe I did that). This one was originally titled "Untitled Impromptu."

A Weekday in the Life

I hate getting up
Early in the morning,
Especially on weekdays
When I have to go to work.

I hate dragging my ass
Out of bed;
I hate being yanked away
From a peaceful and deep slumber.

Oh, the agony of hearing
My cell phone's alarm clock!
And leaving the comfort and warmth
Of my bed, in my sanctuary--my bedroom.

Oh, how I detest it
When my eyes prematurely open;
My half-awake, half-asleep mind wonders,
"What time is it? What time is it?"

I eat my breakfast,
Usually microwable sausage and pancakes.
Then I go to the bathroom
And take a shower afterwards.

I get dressed for work,
With my suit, coat, and tie.
Then I march out the door
And into my red four-door sedan.

I drive to work;
A multitude of vehicles
Crawl horrendously slowly
To their destination.

Once in the office,
Challenges of the day--I face.
Good friends and the biweekly paycheck
Make it all worthwhile.

Late in the afternoon
The journey home begins.
I find myself stuck in traffic,
The mass exodus of cars.

Tired, but relieved,
I'm glad the workday is over.
To the gym I must go next
And work out for an hour or so.

To my family I come home,
Surrounded by loved ones.
Dinner is served;
Favorite telenovela is on.

A hot cup of green tea
Helps me relax and unwind,
As I idly chat with my family,
Reflecting on the day's events.

Late at night
To my sanctuary I must retire,
Far from stress, chaos,
And the worries of the world.

As my eyelids grow heavy
And my senses grow tired,
I succumb to deep slumber--
Lying in comfort and warmth.

Oh, how I long for weekends,
Holidays, vacations, and off-days.
'Tis then that I truly begin
To enjoy life to the fullest.

Nice guys. Drone, you obey structure far more than I do.

And that's pretty deep there, think.

 Thank you; you're too kind. :D On another board, I used to post my daily rants and ramblings. I tried to be a little more poetic about them, and that's why I decided to structure them that way. I wanted to write something that resembled song lyrics, with a chorus and such.

When in disgrace with fortune and men's eyes
I all alone beweep my outcast state
and trouble deaf Heaven with my bootless cries
and look upon myself and curse my fate.
Wishing me to one more rich in hope.
Featured like him with friends possessed
desiring this man's art or that man's scope.
with what I most enjoy, contented least.
Yet in these thoughts myself almost despising

Haply I think on thee.

And then my state like the lark at break of dawn arise from sullen earth
and sings hymns at Heaven's gate.
For thy sweet love remembered such wealth brings
that then I scorn to change my state with kings.
