What if the Vidiian Phage is thing that will end up destroying the mycelial network?
For example, the mycelial network could be hit by an extinction-level plague that the Vidiians are susceptible to, or their attempts at genetic engineering to make themselves compatible with it is what mutates and becomes the Phage, destroying the network in the process... the possibilities are several.

If this is the place for wild speculation RE: Mycelial Network, here's mine:
What if the Mycelial Network is (or later becomes) associated with the energy barrier at the edge of the galaxy. That might explain why spore-affected Stamets looks similar to galactic-barrier-affected Gary Mitchell.

Burnham says that even the light is different in the MU. Lorca can't stand bright lights without eye drops. So maybe Lorca really is from MU?

Don't think that's how it will play out but I like it nonetheless.
Stamets' eyes look nothing like Gary Mitchell's, though. It perplexes me why people think the circumstances or even visuals are similar. The former is a milky/translucent glazed over effect, the latter is more like glowing mercury - very shiny and metallic/reflective.

When he's like that it means he's connected to the mycelial network, focused inwards so much that he can't perceive or react so well to what's happening around him. How is that similar to what happened in WNOHGB?
Gary and the doctor had their ESP potential made exponentially higher by an external alien force. Stamets is interacting directly with an inter-dimensional navigational network due to his DNA being altered and is being overloaded with information. When he's in his fugue state is like he's stuck inside of himself, not lucid at all. He can't even put a coherent sentence together. He throws Hugh around by accident (barely aware) because his adrenals are through the roof - either Tilly or Culber actually says this in that particular scene. His temporary abnormal strength is due to the dangerously high levels of adrenaline in his system.

Gary could see/react to his surroundings, and engage in long conversations just fine. He started acting arrogantly about his new found psychic powers, gradually viewing everyone else (except Dehmer) as far inferior to him. He began to abuse his god-like powers with impunity. But did they corrupt him or was he always corruptible? Dehmer ended up fighting him to her own death (to help Kirk), realizing that she was the only one strong enough to oppose him.

The Discovery goes through the time-rift the Defiant did. While 100 years passed in the Mirror Universe, 100 years also passed on the other end. So, instead of ending up in the Prime 23rd Century, Discovery ends up in the Prime 24th Century. But it won't be the Rick Berman 24th Century. It'll be a Discovery 24th Century.
Take this with a grain of salt. Something that just popped into my mind if they're going to use the trans-time/dimensional rift. Getting back home home is too easy. And if they don't use the spore drive, this is what the rift would do.
Maybe they try to use the spore drive after that again, and then keep never getting back to where they were.

Here's my random speculation. Our Federation Stamets took his knowledge of the spore network and turned it into a mode of transportation.
I assume the Mirror Stamets also has knowledge of the spore network. However, I believe Mirror Stamets would use the spore network for a more... insidious application. I don't know what that nefarious application is, but I believe both Stamets must have activated their spore technologies at the same place and same time which resulted in both ships trading places.

I'm hoping Intel from the Defiant means Discovery has to seek out the Tholians. In at least one novel or maybe fanfic I read long ago (I think even from before "In a Mirror, Darkly" came along), Tholians aren't native to our universe and have technology to move between them.
We're going to end up in the TOS universe. Discovery started out in it's own universe, this is why D7 battle cruisers look different.
Oh that is good. Really good. I forgot about the time displacement with that tear in space. This actually makes alot of sense!
I am not saying I agree with the theory but the differences between the two could be - and knowing this production team should be considered, a visual re-imaging of the eye effect to throw fans off the scent.
Imagine discovery ends like raiders of the lost ark, they can’t get back to the prime universe but are able to send a message explaining their situation to star fleet. Star fleet looks at the data classifies it and locks it away in a top secret facility never to be spoken of again. Essentially writing off the discovery, the glenn and the spore drive project as a complete failure. Thoughts?
I think it is more likely Stamets will take the decision to seal off the Mycelium Network to protect what is left of it from others who may try to misuse it, like Mirror Stamets has. He'd choose to protect it, even if it means never being able to interact with it again.
Whatever Stamets does, closes it off to any future use. This would also explain its non-existence in future canon.

Back in 1999, I said Kirk -- as a Captain in TOS -- was a Young White Male Human. Picard wasn't young. Sisko wasn't white. Janeway wasn't male. I said the next Captain shouldn't be human. Two decades later -- now that Lorca won't be Captain anymore -- we'll finally have our Alien Captain.
Since Lorca isn't the Lorca they thought, would that retroactively -- in Starfleet's eyes -- render the conditions of Burnham's temporary release null and void? Since she's the main character and I don't think the next several seasons will take place in a prison, I think Saru is probably going to bat for her to be pardoned because of her service on Discovery.
I have no idea about Ash/Voq.
