So I'm a little drunk. Had a pleasant evening unwinding by watching "A Hard Day's Night" and drinking a few beers.
Having watched the film and a few special features, I chose (on a Pabst-induced whim) to browse through the menus a bit and out of nowhere I decided to watch a bit of the film in French.
I found myself wondering how well the film translates. There are an awful lot of 1960s working-class British colloquialisms in there. It seems to me like something would get lost in the translation to French, but I have no basis on which to judge that; I speak next to no French at all (just enough to explain that I am a stupid ugly American who does not speak French, really, if I'm honest).
The only thing I could come away with was that the voice-over types who did the French dub sounded passably like the originals (especially in the case of the Beatles). One wonders if the people responsible for the overdub went to the trouble of finding French-speaking VO artists who could, incidentally, do reasonable impressions of the Beatles.
So yeah, oddly specific question... but surely there must be someone on this board who can offer an opinion in this case, yeah?
(Random side note: I have kind of a sponge-like ear, so to speak; I pick up on how people speak and sort of unconsciously emulate it. As a result, I will certainly have to make a concerted effort not to wander around speaking in a psuedo-Scouse accent for the next three days or so. Happens every damn time I watch this film. I get the same thing watching Red Dwarf DVDs.)
