Ramadan

I suppose Muslim board members don't start all their posts with "Praise to Allah" so I'm not sure how you'd be able to tell.

Don't be silly,

I struggle to recall any members bringing it up in any of the many faith and lifestyle related threads that pop up around the board.

Ramadan Mubarak

and many thanks for teaching us the proper terms to use. I will be able to greet some others whom I know very casually with the proper terms this year.

There have been members here who have spoken openly about being Muslim but I can't remember who they are.

I'm having the same problem. I recall having long chats with someone when we had an IRC chatroom. But his name escapes me every time I get close to it. Began with an R, I think.
I remember from a while ago one poster who started one or two threads in Misc. about relationship problems he had with his partner and either his, the partner's, or both families, citing (I think) his own Islamic background as a conflicting issue that the parties involved had raised. I wish I knew who he was, but I don't think he has been around that much any more.

And yes, Ramadan mubarak to those keeping fast this year. :)

That was hamudm IIRC.

Good luck to all those doing Ramadan; don't know how you manage it, especially when it falls in the summer months with their long days!

I so agree! And it must be double difficult if you work with non-muslim colleagues and they eat all the time while you have to go hungry.

Ruaidhri, belated congratulations :) You are a very handsome couple!

When I was a teenager I read the holy books of all major religions and found that on the really basic things they agree completely. I fail to see how any of them might be better than the others.
Over the decades, I have come to the conviction that religions are founded by people who have a light. Unfortunately, their followers only reflect that light and after a few generations it gets so distorted that it's hardly recognizable any more.
I'm sure that Abraham, Jesus, Mohammad and Buddha would have been really good friends had they ever met. It's such a shame that many of their believers apparently can't do the same.

It's nice to see a thread about religion without flaming, bullying, rows and insults. If only that tolerance would spread!

(and in case you wondered - I'm an atheist. But that doesn't mean I don't respect religious people. I'm even RL friends with a catholic priest, a Rabbi and a Muslim)

LOL I never thought of it. As a matter of fact, we do meet in a bar, once a month. :D
They serve some 60 different kinds of fruit juices and non-alcoholic cocktails there. The perfect place for tea-totallers, muslims and other people who don't drink alcohol. (my personal favourite is a pink panther: 1 dollop of grenadine syrup, 1/4 each of red grape juice and grapefruit juice and 2/4 bitter lemon; plus a little crushed ice)

Think Reza is the one who you were trying to remember - Iranian by birth.

Yes! thank you for remembering for me :-) Is Reza still here?

apparently not :(
He's still on the member list but hasn't posted since November 17 2009
Unfortunately, his profile lists only PM as a means of contact. Still, if he has chosen email notification and if he still uses the same address, you might be able to get into contact with him.
His profile is here: http://www.trekbbs.com/member.php?u=443

A black man, a muslim, an illegal alien, and a communist walk into a bar.

The bartender says, "So what'll you have, Mr. President?"

LOL a sign of times: that one wouldn't have worked under MacCarthy nor under either of the Bushes (or Kennedy and his predecessors, for that matter)

McCarthy almost married into the Kennedy's. He was one of their favorites. Under Hoover the joke would've been about our Indian Vice President who only spoke English as his third language.

A Kaw, an Osage, a Francophone, the former majority leader of the Senate, and the President of the Senate walk into a bar.

The bartender says, "So what are you having, Mr. Vice President?"
