Rage Is A Really Good Game

I think this game deserves its own thread. I'm actually really enjoying it! I just started the second disc. Like all games it handles a little clunky at first now I really love the feel and mechanics of the combat. Once you get the Authority machine gun it is gorgeous. I'm playing on Easy and even there the enemy AI is pretty life-like. They take cover to fire, if they don't see you they'll toss grenades at you and eventually advance, if you kill a bunch the rest may run away in terror...

And there is something really satisfying about flinging a Wingstick at a bad guy and seeing his head pop off, then the stick flies back to you :D

And the graphics are just gorgeous! Particularly when blazing through the desert in your car, the graphics stay amazing looking.

Now, obviously the story is not particularly amazing. It's the exact same setup as Fallout 3. Post apocalyptic wasteland. Bad guys are the new faux government. You wake up in a Vault with no knowledge of the new world. But everything else is really strong.

One other minor complaint I have is that you basically have to run through every set twice. There will be a second mission that goes through the same location, though sometimes in reverse. That's a little annoying... but the combat is so much it's still good.

Oh, and how hot is the girl who teaches you to throw Wingsticks at the start of the game? :D

I like a lot, too. At first I was slightly annoyed at how much the setting reminded me of Borderlands, but they seemed to have dropped that vibe fast. I've always loved ID's games though ... especially Doom 3. And yeah, that girl was mega hot!

I think this is a fantastic game also and I'm so glad I didn't pass it by. My main complaint about the game is having to battle the bandit cars over and over at the same areas ever time you drive from point A to point B. Fun for a little while, but eventually it gets a little annoying (not to mention I always seem to spend more in ordinance than what I win from destroying the cars).

Not a real big fan of the racing and express missions either but those are mostly optional (at least so far) and it's not a deal killer by any stretch of the imagination.

Its been a long time since i fired up a game and had it drop my jaw in awe....when you first walk outside its right up there with when you first stepped outside in Fallout 3....just a amazing looking game.

I've been meaning to get my Gamefly goin' again and I think this is the game that's going to do it. Actually, I might just end up buying it! Post-apocalyptic isn't really my favorite setting, especially since we've been seeing it so much lately, but Rage looks too fun to pass up.

Good to know. I was hoping it would be. I was glad to see iD trying to do something different for once. It'll likely be one of my future purchases.

Oh yeah the game is literally Fallout 3 + Borderlands, lol. Borderlands even had the vehicle sections too!

Maybe it's because I'm playing on easy, but I can just boost drive right past the bandit cards and they barely even hit me. You should play the easy races just to get the good armor and engine and wheels/handling for the cars.

So when on the first mission to the Dead City...
how are you supposed to kill the skyscraper sized mutant? It took me twenty damn minutes to do it. I kept firing a rocket at the target on his chest that got exposed whenever he chucked a rock, but it never ever hit, I guess I just randomly lucked into hitting him every 5 minutes or so. Really annoying!

The only thing I really hate about the game is the rocket rally races. They seem so pointless and random. The other races are decent enough though, I guess. I'm wondering if I'll ever get the 5 finger filet challenge.

As for the giant mutant, you just have to shoot at his chest when he is starting to lift the rock above his head and then shoot him in the head when he rushes up to you. Do that 3 times and he is dead.

Yeah I did that over and over and it wasn't working. Maybe I wasn't firing at the right time, I dunno....

NEED HELP!!! I'm at the end of the Blue Line Station mission and I need to set TNT charges. But apparently I'm missing 1 or more and I have no idea where they are! There are three right in the one area by the charger, but the wire has FOUR lines and I don't see a fourth one. Also there is a wire going BACK to the beginning of the level which is blocked from you, and I don't remember if I set a charge back at the start of the level or not (I played the first part the other day). WTF am I doing wrong?!

Nevermind, found it on a video walkthrough. Yeesh! :)

Mr. Light, I am on that part right now. I haven't set any charges yet (Ace Combat: Assault Horizon jumped to the top of my play list), but once I get back to it I hope I will have all the charges.

It's sitting on my shelf... I have quite a backlog. Dead Island, Resistance 3, FEAR 3, Assassin's Creed II & Brotherhood... and with Batman: Arkham City, Battlefield 3, Uncharted 3, Skyrim & MW3 all on the horizon, it may be December before I get into Rage. :)

There was a fourth charge on a pillar in the middle of the room I wasn't noticing, that's all.

I don't like Subway Town, it's too dark and depressing. I miss the bright sunny desert feel of the first city.

BTW back on Disc 1, there's that swamp you go into to get the flower, and beyond that is a meteor crater. I walked up to the crater, but if you walk into it, you fall and die. Is there some secret stuff in there or something?

So far I've only seent he first half hour or so, thanks to various 'lets play' vids on Youtube, but it does look like a lot of fun. Thouhg to be fair, I haven't seen much of the racing part just yet.

I did laugh entirely too much during the first 10 second sof this vid though (no real spoilers). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rdHH51MArcg

Some odd physics here.

Yeah I did that over and over and it wasn't working. Maybe I wasn't firing at the right time, I dunno..

Yeah that part is very much a timing thing. Basically you have to anticipate and fire before the target on his chest appears. That section took me awhile too until I stumbled onto the correct timing, and then it wasn't bad.

Money always seems to be a problem for me, I guess I waste too much ordinance when fighting. Early on in the game, I opted for the armor that gave you better protection in fighting over the one that gave you better prices at the stores. Turned out to be a mistake for me.

In subway town you can get unlimited funds by buying from the guy with the weird backpack and then selling to Jani for a mark-up. But, you don't really need to do this, my last play through I finished w/ an extra 2k w/out farming. Also, don't forget to pick up the bobble heads on the 2 mayors desks, each is worth $150. Another thing is the sewer missions, which yield a lot of money. And lastly of course, there is always money to be earned on mutant bash TV.

Interesting tip on the guy in Subway town, I'll have to remember that. I've gotten both the bobble heads. I think my main problem is I waste ammo, plus a lot of times it seems like I accidentally press the wrong button when driving and I waste a shield or some rockets or something.

Hated Mutant Bash TV. But I have won a little money at the dice gambling game.

Yeah . . . Not so much. He wanted $78 for Viper rockets and she would only give me $75 in return. Did you possibly pick the suit that gave you better prices?

Apparently it works with some items and not with others. Yeah, I'm wearing the crimson elite armor, which has all of the bonuses of the other armors. I first tried it with grenades and it worked. I hear it also works w/ bandages that you can buy from Stew. However, I just tried it w/ electro bolts and lost $5 in the process.

Well maybe I'll try some other items at different times. I just went through a shitload of ammo in Jackal Canyon. About every time I get a little money built up, then I have to spend it on ammo. Those frickin Jackals were a real pain to kill.

I snipe a lot, and I guess that might be the difference between your ammo deficit and mine.
