Racebending "Akira"

Akira has become an iconic movie and should be treated with care. I mean, goddamnshitfucking Justin Timberlake????????????????? This isn't the 50th American Pie movie the producer wants to make so he can justify all those drugs and hookers as tax-writeoffs!

Timberlake was a powerhouse in the Social Network. I'd be more worried about the black hole of anti-charisma that is Robert Pattinson.

Also, I'd gladly watch Chiwetel Ejiofor as James Bond.

I actually thought Timberlake had the weakest performance of the bunch.

Yeah, he was pretty much the weakest link of the movie, but he wasn't all bad. Pattinson is pretty awful. I have yet to see what anyone sees in him.

Interesting. I haven't seen TSN since the cinema, but Timberlake's performance is the one that still stands out in my mind. Might have to watch it again then.

Have to agree. Even when they recently condensed Evangelion into a movie series a log of the subtleties and subplots were lost. Part of the beauty of that show is that even after the 30th time you'll still discover aspects which had escaped you all those times before. Hell, you could fill a whole library trying to interpret the last two episodes and you'd still only be scratching the surface!
Akira can be adapted into a Live Action version. It's the HOW that makes all the difference.
That was kind of the plan from the beginning though; to make a more cohesive and solid Evangelion with less baggage. Unlike most anime that try a compilation film or an alternate take, these ones are actually good. Though, judging by the events of the second movie, You Can [NOT] Advance, they appear to have changed the film series from an alternate adaptation to a sequel so it might not be a good example for this situation.

I still remember that being broached here before Craig was cast and that idea didn't go over that well.

I don't know. I seem to remember a lot of people showing interest in the rumour that Colin Salmon was up for the role.

Then again, people are bitching that Superman isn't being played by an American, so this stuff does get a bit ridiculous sometimes.

Which is even more ridiculous when you consider that the current, and hugely popular incarnation of Batman is portrayed by a Brit, and next year a Brit will be playing Spider-Man.

We're in ur filmz, playing ur superheroez. ;)

Andrew Garfield grew up in the UK, but he was actually born in the US, and his father is American, so we have an equal claim to the new Spidey. :p

Meh, he's referred to as a British actor, so I still maintain we're taking over your superheroes. :p

Mister Fantastic was Welsh.
Darkman was Irish.
Professor X was (and is) English.

Unless the Napster guy is really like that, Justins portrayal of him seemed kind of bland compared to Armie, Andrew and Jesse's performance of there characters. Wasn't terrible, but I dont know it's all subjective. Timberlakes best role i think was Black Snake Moan.

I could see Andrew Garfield as Tetsuo though.

They could go a few different directions with this. Big blockbuster using Akira the manga and a mix of The Matrix which has heavy anime influence anyway in my opinion or even better something alittle more subdued like Blade Runner, Dark City, Minority Report maybe a little bit of Tron Legacy. A futuristic yet bleak Neo York on the verge of a rude awakening. All because some angry emo kid with psychic abilities was given wedgies, swirly's and the ever so popular Atomic Wedgy in high school.:)
