R.I.P. Richard Kiel

I watched Happy Gilmore last night.

Made me sad to see this today.

Also reminded me of a MST3K movie where he played a caveman...lol.

He's been with me for 44 years.

Very sad to see this in the news when I got in from work tonight.

I was lucky to meet him at a Fangoria convention in Austin back in '08. He wasn't even listed on the website as a guest, but still...best experience of the day.

When I saw 1974's The Longest Yard in the cinema, Kiel got a big laugh from the audience with the line, "I think I broke his fuckin' neck!"

His were two of the very worst Bond films but they resulted in enduring public affection for him. He always seemed to be a thoroughly nice guy in interviews which no doubt helped.

RIP Richard.

^Spy Who Loved Me was a big critical and financial success, and along with For Your Eyes Only is often considered one of the better Moore offerings.

Moonraker, on the other hand...

TSWLM is probably Moore's best, and one of my favourite Bond films. As for Moonraker, it goes too far (way, way too far) but God it's fun :)

Actually all three of those films were some of the best ones. Particularly Moonaraker.

But that's beside the point right now.

Richard Kiel stands out for me not only because of Jaws, but I remember him for bullying Mr. Mytlyplk on Superboy and his work on The Wild Wild West, the only Western I've ever been able to sit through.

RIP Richard.

Maybe I was a bit hard on TSWLM, but imho the two decent Moore films were Live And Let Die and For Your Eyes Only.

Jaws was kind of iconic though, especially in Spy...

Along with his two Bond film appearances, I loved his episode of The Twilight Zone.

And Thriller was another series he did where his episode was a stand out.

Rest in peace.

Rest in peace Mr. Kiel. I just heard about his passing a few minutes before I opened up my newspaper and saw an ad for the Fanboy Expo in Tampa this weekend. Richard Kiel was to be a guest.

Very sad news. Richard Kiel was awesome in everything he did. I still laugh when I remember his scene in Happy Gilmore, with Shooter McGavin (McDonald) saying, "Oh you can count. Good for you," to which Larson (Kiel) replies, "And YOU can count, on ME waiting for YOU in the parking lot!"

I consider TSWLM to be the best whole-package Bond film.

Kiel was also the blink-and-you'll-miss-him original Incredible Hulk...they replaced him with Ferrigno when they realized that he didn't have the sort of build they were looking for, but some long shots of him made it into the pilot episode.
