R.I.P. James Darren

James Darren (Vic Fontaine) has passed away today at 88. I actually heard about it before it was publicly announced as a Facebook friend of mine knew him; still I wanted to wait until there was a public announcement to avoid rumor-mongering. I love that he always said Vic Fontaine was one of his favorite roles. I think it’s also really cool that his appearances on DS9 led to a late-stage resurgence of his singing career.

Vic was, like so many DS9 secondary characters, surprisingly developed and well-written. Hell, the character got his own episode! It is no wonder that Mr. Darren considered this one of his favorites; I have to imagine that so late in his career—for something like this to happen? That must’ve been really special.

RIP Mr. Darren, and thanks for the memories.

This is really sad news. I liked him and his character Vic Fontaine.

May he entertain the angels in heaven now.

Oh man what a sucky thing to wake up to.
I'm a big Irwin Allen fan and loved the time tunnel. When James Appeared on Deep Space Nine my favorite Star Trek show I was absolutely thrilled that he got a recurring part on the show.

Vic Fontaine is the reason I became a Sinatra fan. When I told that to Mr. Darren at a con he said, "I wish Frank was still alive so I could tell him that." I will miss him. RIP Mr. Darren.

Oh damn, that sucks. I loved Vic and I loved James Darren whenever I saw him in anything. His performance had an incredible warmth and humanity to it and he had the voice of an angel. Would have loved to have been able to meet him one day. I shall always remember him, though.
