Quinto is out of the closet

I should add that I like Quinto and I thought he was already out of the closet. Doesn't matter to me if he's gay or not. He still is one hot Spock. :D

The irony is that if you already "knew" that Quinto was gay even though he never came out, you could have only assumed that he was gay. And that makes you homophobic.

At least that's the discussion I had with a friend 15 minutes ago.

OMG, Roger. What about Deep Space Nine? The episode where Jadzia met a woman from Torias' past? The major reason they didn't get together was because it was forbidden in Trill society that hosts not get involved with people from their past lives! "Rejoined" was an awesome episode!

I wrote near-complete. Showing pretty lesbians is just barely acceptable, especially with the added Trill complications that muddle the male-female line.

None of Trek's 700+ hours feature bestiality either. Rodenberry and Berman clearly had no respect for the lifestyles of people who want to have sex with animals. How evil and intentional of them.

I don't think it's a stretch to assume Roddenberry disapproved of bestiality.

After noticing this, I'm not surprised.

This post is retarded and probably wasn't loved enough as a child.

Ok goodie he ame out, can we get on w/ the movie now. I agree with M'Sharak that this would have killed his career a generation ago, there is a congresswoman's hubby in my district who thinks this is something that can be cured (which I think is bs). I truely hope it personality wise than sexuality.

It's so weird... I remember something newsy about it. And it was a while back too.
http://www.advocate.com/News/Daily_News/2010/10/25/Zachary_Quinto_Quiet_on_Gay_Rumors/ Here's something. I guess it was all the rumors last year about this time.

David Gerrold left the staff of TNG over Roddenberry saying ther he would produce Bolld & Fire and then backing out of it. Berman claimed that they showed gay people but they never made a big deal about it since it was commonplace. Well, so is hetrosexuality but we never had any lack of depictions of hetro relationships but never even a glimps that there were any gay people in the future. Not one example. Ever.

We saw any number of incidental crewmembers involved in hetro relationships but never even saw a same sex couple holding hands.

You don't need a big neon arrow gaying GAY--> pointing at someone to acknowled that there are still going to be gay people in the future. As it is, you could write an episode of Enterprise where someone creates a virus that prevents gay people from being born and not violate a single aired minute of Star Trek.

But that would be considered pandering or stereotyping. "Why would anyone in the 23rd or 24th century create a virus that effects only humans in that way? Wouldn't it make more sense to target a gender or the entire race, affecting women's abilities to bear children at all?" That would seem the question to ask at the writing table.

Brilliant!

Oh yeah, I remember that! That was the point where I said something like that if someone doesn't directly answer the question "are you gay" it shows that he's uncomfortable and it's highly probable that he indeed is gay. And then I got flamed at for saying that.

Well we also have the episode where the Jadzia asks what a "male" ferengi being in love with Quark. She is surprised not about a male being in love with a male, but that the person was actually a women. Nor do we see a Sisko have any issue with the female female couples with the mirror universe.

Haha, actually, there's constant beastiality in Trek. An Orion girl having sex with Kirk isn't so far away from a human having sex with an (intelligent) monkey.

Or Sarek & Amanda.

Nobody had issues with female/female couples in the mirror universe. That's part of the problem, the only time we really see any sort of same sex raltionships is when we're in the "evil" universe. Everyone in the "good" universe is straight as an arrow.

Good for Quinto! Hopefully this will increase the probability that the next Star Trek film will feature an LGBT character.

Quinto's own words should be a bit better than that article. In part:

- it became clear to me in an instant that living a gay life without publicly acknowledging it - is simply not enough to make any significant contribution to the immense work that lies ahead on the road to complete equality. our society needs to recognize the unstoppable momentum toward unequivocal civil equality for every gay lesbian bisexual and transgendered citizen of this country. gay kids need to stop killing themselves because they are made to feel worthless by cruel and relentless bullying.

If the actor being gay means the character is gay, why did Sulu have a kid?

Just get over it! So Quinto's gay. Who gives a fuck?

If the actor being gay means the character is gay, why did Sulu have a kid?

They mention that Sulu has a family in "Generations", and we see his daughter, but they never mention a wife. How do we know that Sulu's partner wasn't a man? They could have had a child together with the help of a surrogate mother. I'm not saying that Sulu is gay, but I don't think there would be anything violating established canon if he was.

I'm not suggesting that Sulu should be gay because the actor is, but at the same time, I actually think Sulu being gay would be cool. Nothing wrong with having a gay crew member on the 1701.
