There's a lot of media interest in Marvin, with fans like John Legend, Kendrick Lamarr et al and possibility of new documentary next year. So...simple question...your best/favorite/quintessential Marvin. I was genuinely surprised he'd made so few albums!

I haven't listened to all of those, what I have are good, but What's Going On is like Sgt. Pepper's, The Dark Side of the Moon, Blonde On Blonde etc. Perfect album.

What's Going On is the obvious choice. I find it a little limp actually, but still brilliant. "What's Happening Brother" is great.

I Want You is actually a very, very solid album. Great cover and 70's vibe. Nearly my #1 pick.

Here My Dear clear standout track is "When Did You Stop Loving Me/When Did I stop Loving You"- (my favorite Gaye track). Rest of the album is less memorable but awesome as the kiss off to Anna Gordy. That took balls.

"Let's Get It On" is a little dull to me. Fav: "You Sure Love to Ball"- something Riker or Lando would play when they're getting busy.

"Trouble Man" is for completists.

Marvin Gaye is the best. His songs with Tammi Terrell are also classic. Get the compilation.

It does tend to get used in that vein, doesn't it?

Marvin had the perfect Motown voice, no matter the song. Not to mention he wrote a lot of those songs. At least 70.
