Quick Response Ship??

Johnny

Commander
Red Shirt
So I got flash back on my computer, and went a bit crazy. I always like the idea of small and to the point ships, with everything compacted down. So it's got a little of voyager in there too, and I tried to model the 'wings??' on the Defiant's little stubby bits on it's front, kinda imagining them having a deck or two depth to them. The two nacelles hang below the ship off a flat ventral hull upside down, and then a nova style deflector infront.
I was going for some kinda of responder ship. fast, nippy, etc.
would appreciate comments. ta. :D

Neat. Reminds me of some of the designs I have seen at Ravenstar Studios

I'm afraid my talents stop at 2D! I hardly ever try side on shots cus I manage to make them look naf. Anyway, here's an attempt, i think I've got the general shape right, but the windows didn't match the decks. so much for planning ahead! :s

I might just see if i can do a basic 3D model, if I can track down where I put lightwave. :s

Aw crap. Why do you people keep doing this to me!!?? You just HAD to come up with something clever and unique. You just HAD to come up with a design so cool that I am now fighting the urge to start modeling it.

Must.... resist... temptation...

Too... many... other... projects... to... finish...

Aaaaaarrrrrggggghhhh....

^
Nice little ship there! I had to read the description a few times before I realized that the "wings" were not nacelles. I suppose once you get some color on this, that will help perceptions.

Great ship.

It's reminds me of a post-TNG version of what the S.S. Beagle ("Bread and Circuses") might've been like. Would this ship house a crew of 47 maybe? Or smaller?

I really like your design! I write fan-fic stories about the Starfleet Border Service which employs cutters of various kinds (deep-space, fast-response, buoy tenders, etc.) Your design fits into the fast-response mission profile perfectly!

Nice little ship. I wonder, though, about the nacelles. They're tucked underneath like bird's feet and seem like a bit of an afterthought. As a result, they don't add much to the design. Maybe you could incorporate the nacelles into the primary hull, like attaching them to the rear quarters?

I've put a little comparison together. Nova had 80 crew I think, and I read that the Defiant had somewhere in the region of 45 (maybe even 47), so I think I'm gonna head for the 60/65 mark to cover the extra few decks.
Also the defiant is 120m ish so I'd put mine around 140m with nacelles.

Masao, I was trying to make them slightly inconspicuous, which is why they're receeded into the secondary hull. I did consider putting them behind the bridge, but the angle of the slope would have required some huge support structure, and I was aiming for compact and unobtrusive. I did consider putting them on the rim that extends around from the shuttle bay on the secondary hull and have them slip under the saucer.

Oh, and Vektor, don't let those other more important things stop you...:)

I'll try for a top down deck plan next I think.
Thanks for all the coms...
