Questions you'd ask a member of various alien species.

Regarding Betazoids... maybe most don't like the idea of serving on ships full of people without telepathic abilities. Or a taboo, perhaps.

Also possible, regarding Troi being picked... maybe Starfleet, or Picard, thinks it better to not have a full telepath as Counselor and part of diplomatic affairs. I can see an alien race in a negotiation being offended having someone who can read minds as part of negotiations. Wars have started because of less. But an empath like Troi can be that middle ground that could be advantageous enough and not offending enough to be grest at the job.

In the episode "Errand of Mercy," from The Classic Series, Captain Kirk uses this sales pitch on the Organians:

KIRK: Gentlemen, I must get you to reconsider. We can be of immense help to you. In addition to military aid, we can send you specialists, technicians. We can show you how to feed a thousand people where one was fed before. We can help you build schools, educate the young in the latest technological and scientific skills. Your public facilities are almost non-existent. We can help you remake your world, end disease, hunger, hardship. All we ask in return is that you let us help you. Now.

"All we ask in return ... is that you let us help you." I don't mean to disbelieve this, because it's coming directly from Our Hero, but ... that "all" part in there has all sorts of red flags popping up, for me. So many ...

Wasn't Organia located in a strategic area between Federation and Klingon sectors? Kirk just wanted the Federation to be invited in to develop the planet before the Klingons just annexed the place. As part of the PR game, The Federation wan't just going to march in and set up port, last time they tried that it was Eminiar VII and they were declared dead in a forever war (A Taste of Armageddon).

Ask a Ferengi how big their Q-tips are.

You put some images in my mind there.

Ask a human, if the world is united, why do we see so many more white people in Starfleet than Asians and Arabs?

Even though Earth was united, national cultures didn't appear to go away. So it made sense to me that there were so many Americans in Starfleet given America's history in space and space travel's prominence in its culture. But by the same token, we should have seen more Russians besides Chekhov. And more Chinese people and Indians simply due to the volume of people. Although it seemed to be implies that a lot of the WWIII fighting happened in the Orient, so it's possible their population share was substantially diluted.

Having a single planetary government is no guarantee that the people now under it will be united, in fact it might make the people even more dis-united than they were before.

One possibility, just as we've seen starships with primarily Vulcan officers/crew, perhaps too different Human cultures will have a primary presence on a given starship. People from outside that culture may be present, but are the exception.

So, mostly Chinese crews, mostly American crews, mostly Indian crews, etc..

For humans- What happened to all the female admirals and captains between 2260 and 2265?
Everyone else - Was Prime Starfleet taken to court for speciest, sexual and racial discrimination in the mid 23rd century?

TNG Klingons: How did you guys maintain a feudal monarchy while developing Space travel.
Ferengi: What did you give the Cardassians and Klingons that stopped them from conquering you.
Romulan: Do your males undergo Pon farr.
Cardassian: Why is your species capable of interbreeding with Bajorans. follow up: Why recruit comfort women from another species instead of using robots or holograms.
Earth Human: Does it bother you that their are hundreds of species that look exactly like yours with almost no physical differences whatsoever?
