Wikipedia, dude, you need wikipedia. You can read overviews of the whole franchise, overviews of each series, overviews of each season, there are separate pages for each character, etc. Very handy.

Although, I actually enjoy coming here and asking questions instead of using the Internet sometimes. I like the quasi-human interaction, and a lot of other trekbbs members have knowledge from books or personal experience that isn't included on memory alpha.

Ok, so i just started watching ST and TNG more specifically.
In the episode "Q who?" Q introduces us to the Borg. if the Borg are as nasty as is portrayed in that episode, what does that make Seven of Nine from Voyager?

7of9 can't be held responsible for the actions of the collective. I doubt they even have law for that in the UFP. Considering what happened with Picard after his microsurgery in BOBW, I tend to think 7of9 could have been "less Borg" more quickly, but I suppose it made for a lot character development.

Are there no vulcans in TNG?

Yes, there are a few guest starring roles, plus plenty of background extras dressed up as Vulcans. They aren't a central race however.

Is TNG before or after the original series with Kirk?

You may be thinking of Enterprise, but STNG is definitely after TOS.

I guess what would be nice is a timeline for ST and a more detailed one for the series. any idea where I can find one other than going through a bunch of episode guides?

The ST Chronology is prob available on Amazon.com. Its out of date now though. I am sure there are websites like Memory Alpha and the the main ST site that have more accurate timelines by now.
