1) It wasn't Berman who wanted the TNG-lite series, it was UPN that did. He wanted to wait until DS9 was done and THEN do VOY so the extra time could be spent on smoothing out the premise and the characters.

This. Sorry Berman-bashers, but get your facts right before launching yet another laughable tirade against the man. Rick has said many times that UPN gave him an ultimatum: Series IV was happening, and would debut in Jan 1995. If he didn't want to be involved, fine, they'd just get somebody else.

Rick struggled with that for a while, but ultimately felt so attached to Trek (having spent almost a decade of his life on it by that point) that he decided he'd do his best to remain true to his creative ideals and also try and please the UPN execs.

As history proved, he just couldn't do both.
