Question: Why is this forum so darn good?!?!

Posters make the forum. For every one poster I want to hunt down and execute, there are 10-15 cool posters here.

Oh God. I hope I'm of the latter group.

The type of posters I tend to hate are the EXTREME bashers or gushers, or are just super stupid in general.

Those whose sole purpose on here is seemingly to hate a TV show or movie -- where they declare their hate for it in advance, yet watch it anyway (with the sole intent of hating every minute of it), then come back here to tell everyone how right they are because they fulfilled their own prophecy -- they're the worst, IMO.

One poster on here watched every episode of Enterprise with pen and paper in hand to tell us how bad it was and how much of a waste of time it was.

There are a couple other posters who were sort of that way with Battlestar Galactica. One hated it so much he bashed it in a general TV thread where the OP was asking for opinions about shows he should watch. The BSG basher went so far as to spoil the entire series for him.

So as long as you're not like that, or you're not so in lust with your video game console that you tout how superior it is to the rival console by citing that such-and-such game got a 9.5 rating for your console but a measly 9.4 for the other console, you're fine by me.

This is what I don't get. If someone hates something, why bother joining a forum to be irritating? I don't get it. Everyone is free to like and dislike what they want but to join a forum just to bash it when you know that people who like it will retaliate signifies that your life is boring and your idea of "action" in your life is pissing a bunch of people off in a forum about something you don't even like.

People do it because, in their minds, it reinforces their own sense of their superiority to the common herd.

Think of it this way: if you dislike something that most people like, then, obviously, you must be much smarter and have much better taste than most people.

But it's no fun being smarter and having better taste than others unless other people recognize your superiority. So, you post in their forums to show your prowess, and let them know just how inferior they are.

Then you revel in their rejection, which merely reinforces your self-image as a fearless iconoclast. The more they hate you, the more you despise them. The angrier they get, the stupider they appear to you, and the smarter you appear to yourself.

When in reality, you're just a loser who never learned the difference between 'good attention' and 'bad attention'.

I'm going to go on a small rant.


Over the past 9 years, I've been to many different forums. I've seen stupidity at it's finest and I've seen intelligence at it's finest.


This forum and it's members is FAR better than other forums. I find that I can be myself (sarcastic/witty) and not have people get their panties in a twist because people get it.

Other forums, you get people acting like they are superior because they fail to have an outside life so they go to forums and act as if they own the place and that makes forums a very unwelcome place.

I am actually only active in about three forums. Most others, I left shortly after joining because they either got boring or there were too many annoying people.

The community here doesn't discriminate against new members and makes us feel welcome. Other places just try to "scare" new members away.

10/10 for The Trek BBS.

--the fact that the majority of posters here seem to be male;

--your avatar;

--and your signature.

While there's certainly no rule against women liking hockey, I think you must admit that your sig has a rather masculine air about it.
