Question/Theory Regarding Sayid and Horace (Spoilers to The Incident)

Someone just mentioned this in the grading and discussion thread and I also read about it on another board recently. It is an interesting prospect that I had not thought about before. In the episode "Cabin Fever" Locke, Ben, and Hurley come upon the pit of bodies from the Purge. Locke sees Horace's jumpsuit and grabs the map from it. In this scene and in other scenes Locke notices that some of the suits seem to have bullet holes and there are guns nearby, which seems strange if they all died in the Purge.

So I was thinking, is it possible that the body in Horace's jumpsuit is Sayid? We know that he put on Horace's jumpsuit as he was trying to escape Dharmaville, and they seemed to make a point of showing us the name tag.

Someone mentioned that no, this had to be Horace's body because we know Horace died in the Purge. But do we really even know that those bodies are from the Purge? Locke assumes it and Ben does not seem to deny it (though I can't remember the exact dialogue so if anyone knows what Ben said please fill me in), but there is nothing that says these bodies HAVE to be from the Purge. Someone on another board suggested that these bodies are related to the Incident and other possible violence and shootings related to it, and this is why there were bullet holes.

So maybe they are still in 1977, or at least Sayid is, and they put his body there after he died from his gunshot wound. This of course relies on them having not changed the timeline and not returned to the present, so come the premiere next year I may be proven entirely wrong. But I think that it's an interesting theory.

Re: Question/Theory Regarding Sayid and Horace (Spoilers to The Incide

I think the only point in showing Horace's name on the jumpsuit was to show whose house the tunnels were under/linked/led.

IOW, the house that Ben later uses.

Re: Question/Theory Regarding Sayid and Horace (Spoilers to The Incide

The purge happened when Ben was an adult. His body wouldn't be on the top of the pile if he died over a decade earlier in 77.

And why did they have to come out of the tunnels in Dharmaville? There must have been another exit elsewhere.

Re: Question/Theory Regarding Sayid and Horace (Spoilers to The Incide

^I'm saying that none of the bodies in the pit could be related to the Purge, those bodies could be elsewhere on the island. All of the bodies in the pit could be due to the Incident.

Exactly. This could have been a precursor to the purge.

Hmmm, I see at least 14 bodies and that seems to be more than were at the Swan site.

Plus there doesn't seem to be any blood stains on the abdomen of this Horace uniform.

Since Jacob touched Sayid on the shoulder and he ended up in the past he'll probably end up wherever Jack and co end up (present?).

^ Does that jumpsuit say Horace was a mathematician? I thought he was in security with Sawyer.
