Question regarding the Aenar

I was just reading this http://en.memory-alpha.org/wiki/Talla about the Andorian/Aenar hybrid daughter of Shran.

The Aenar are blind and telepathic and genetically compatible with the Andorians. But what I'm not clear on is whether the offspring is blind. IN these are the voyages it doesn't really tell us form what I remember. The aenar are able to see without using sight anyway. Just curious as to what people think.

I'm writing some fan fiction with an andorian/aenar hybrid and need to get some info.

If it's not specifically mentioned onscreen, you could justify either situation in your writing. Both seem equally plausible.

AFAIK, Talla was not blind.

I would tend to agree that she wasn't blind. Though I know most people that are blind tend to look in the direction of a voice (look at Geordi for example when the visor isn't on) she was looking directly at Archer. And her eyes seemed focused.

As far as being telepathic, I don't think she was on long enough but it would be a safe bet to think that she had some of the abilities. Again look at Troi, she could communicate telepathically with Betazoids but not with other telepaths, though she could feel their emotions.

The Romulans kidnapped one to pilot those ships, it took a telepathic person to pilot them, what gets me is that is was so against killing, and yet he must have killed hundreds of people in all those ships. It was only when his sister convinced him that the Romulans were lying "What a Shock that Was" that he did destroy both of those prototype ships, and in turn was killed by that Romulan Admiral. The Aenar, were a polar dwelling sub-species on Andrroria, and they existed in the polar regions of the planet, never did mention north or south polar regions. I think think since Lissan was killed by that Tellorite pig, he eventually hooked up with Jhlmel, I hope they lived a long a productive life and had many children.... Shran ROCKS !!!!!!!

Perhaps the antannae are sensory organs, emitting sonar or something like that? After all none of the Aenar moved like blind people, they knew where to step.

It very probably is a genetic situation where if the hybrid Aenar is sighted, then she is most likely not telepathic. And vice versa. If the hybrid Aenar is blind, then she might be telepathic. These abilities may not be mutually exclusive, but based on the available data (a few episodes) they seem to be.

That said: Tala by all accounts appeared to be sighted.

But then again, it's entirely up to the writer.

That would effectively cut them off from their people, to be a non telepath Aenar.

^I never said it was ideal. Then again, Troi isn't full Betazoid nor fully telepathic. I never noted any instance where she wasn't fully accepted in Human or Betazoid scoiety.

I would also point out that based on the available data, that (other than her her father faking his death and her kidnapping) Tala was anything but cut off from her people, and she didn't seem terribly telepathic.

People who are blind at birth tend to act a bit differently than those who become blind later in life. People develop a habit of turning to look at the person speaking and that carries over after losing site. Many who are born blind only turn their head when it is necessary to compensate for background noise.
