Hugh is American (his birth name is David Friedman, but he had it legally changed), but his books are peppered with Britsh Isles-isms, or at least Fallen Heroes is, where Odo and Quark experience confusion because what Quark calls "flashlights" Odo calls "torches." (What neither of them seem to know is that in the future, we call them "palm beacons.")
