Just rewatching this Gem.. Definitely like the suspense.. 2 q's maybel can help with.

Within the first mins you see Walker Keele of the Horatio

Was wondering A if Code 47 was used post episode and B why is Walker sitting behind Starfleet Insignia in the transmission shot.. Isnt he only a Captain?

The Code only ever pops up in one TNG comic, nor do our TNG era heroes use other numbered Codes in other episodes.

Why not sit in front of the Federation emblem graphic? It's used aboard Picard's ship in quite a few places, too. Keel appears to sit at a fairly decorative table, so possibly either his Ready Room or Office or then his personal Quarters (since Picard's supposedly even bigger ship doesn't warrant such luxurious surface material at the big public tables like Observation Lounge)? And Keel would want privacy for his discussion. Perhaps he just is the type to surround himself with rousing national symbols, rather than with vaguely pleasing art like Picard.

Cool..

Thx.

Ya.. was thinking of own experience in politics, kind of like the logo of your political party above head.. I just felt it gives an Admiral kind of vibe... like a Necheyev or whatnot... definitely looks official... but ya no rules broken so cool..

I find quite a bit of odd dialogue from first season incl this 47.. pretty much gets replaced with "Patch it through on a secure channel"

:)

It seems Code 47 is a shadier shade of shady - not only is it secure, it's also anonymous in that there's no record left of the call ever having been made! I could see Starfleet needing something like that on (rare) occasion, but Picard may be too square for such things. Certainly it gives "Conspiracy" a nicely abnormal vibe from the very start.

In Canada, was kind of joke few years ago a couple parties ganged up to oust the Conservative Party, (nothing illegal or sinister.. in Parliamentary Rule, he who commands the house of commons is the party who rules, if you dont have the votes you lose to other party!)

HOWEVER - The conservatives got wind of it and it was actually a miscommunique that got sent to a same name in the Conservative Party and the guy recorded it... how secure is secure haha.. the plan got unraveled.. but shows the importance of SECURE

Wasn't it nice to see Worf and Geordi actually come RUNNING down the corridor to help Riker? And they weren't even Security guys at the time!

One might consider that a plot point, really. Riker makes a desperate call for Security after Quinn has kicked him to the floor for the first time. The call goes unanswered, and Riker goes down for good. So apparently Quinn has used his flag officer privileges or related dirty tricks to block Riker's communications.

But Quinn does benefit from Worf and LaForge and especially Crusher rushing in - his stated goal is to insert a bug into Crusher and then eliminate all the top officers. So he probably places a false call that sends bridge officers, not Security, running. And they aren't even running to respond to a security alert - their guns are holstered, and when they find Riker unconscious and Quinn upright, they don't ask "Where's the fight?" but accept Quinn's bull about Riker slipping and hitting his head, and automatically also assume that Crusher is on her way.

If only he hadn't thrown Geordi through the cardboard doorway, Crusher may have been caught off guard.

I like this episode except for the horrific, gratuitously gruesome scene at the end.

That part though with Quinn throwing Riker around like a ragdoll.. Something between WWF mid late 90s and Asam West batman with thise BAM. POW. captions.. I chalk that awkward scene with Geordi in tow as.. Give them a break they were still working the flow of the show.. The formality of ship sscurity really takes hold from 3rd season onward (but even encounter with Borg is way too lax.. They shouldve been ready to be boarded given the threat) and those hideous miniskirrs are gone too by then
