I have to add that it makes me feel really old when people think 6pm is too early for the series given that it was on before 5.30 all through my childhood...

I know how u feel.........17.30 was the usual time for Dr who way back in the 70 on a Saturday, i think if i remember correctly it moved to Monday nights and started the whole 19.00 showing with Davidson's tenure.
17.00 the basil brush show/Jim'll fix it.
17.25 Dr who.
18:00 The Generation game.
19:00 Opportunity Knocks.
20:00 Two Ronnie's/Val Doonican show/Mike yarwood.
21.00 Starsky and Hutch/Kojak.
Then over to BBC2 for the double bill of horror....Dracula,Frankenstein,Wolfman......Then TV transmission over for the day....."Good night from everybody here at BBC2"...(cue high pitch sound).
