Question for production team, how are Vulcan ears attached?

DumbDumb2007

A question for the production team. Hiw are the Vulcan ears attached ? I watched a Mission Impossible episode on dvd recently and I noticed how Leonard Nimoy's ears protrude from his skull like anyone else's. When the Vulcan earpieces are attached they occupy the same physical space as Nimoy's own ears.
Are the actor's ears held back and then the Vulcan earpiece is then glued(?) on and painted over?
Are the actors ears held back with a narrow thread that is tied from ear to ear that holds the person's regular ears close to the side of their head so the latex ears can be plcaed on correctly ?

I doubt any of the original production team is going to respond to this post. Most of them are dead.

If you're asking about all series (Vulcans in general) then you might be better off asking this question in GTD.

Spirit gum and latex rubber, if I recall Philips' comments correctly. A piece of double-sided tape was then applied between the ears and the head -- and removed. A thin adhesive film was left by the tape, which was strong enough to hold the points close.

Why does this remind me of Bill Murray ordering the antlers stapled to the head of the Door Mice in "Scrooged"?

Yep. For ST:TMP, Fred Phillips made new molds of Nimoy's ears - but forgot his trick re pinning the ears close to the head. TMP Spock looked like a pixie on Day 1 of publicity photos, until Phillips & Nimoy remembered the trick.
