Question for my fellow authors

My series was originally going to be stories set in a few different time periods about a hundred years apart. The ships would all be similar, like a TOS Miranda version, a TMP Miranda version, a TNG version, etc. The series as a whole was going to be named "Eon and Eternity", so the TOS ship was going to be the USS Eon and the TNG ship was going to be the USS Eternity. Other time periods would have ships named along that same theme, like USS Perpetuity, USS Infinity, etc. Alas the idea never blossomed, and all I ever wrote was a couple stories about the USS Eternity.

I like your idea, Rich. What if the common connecting thread was a captain, or less obvious a choice, a chief engineer, who never grew old or had a life span of a thousand years. They hid by adopting new identities every ten years or so.

I had a slightly different idea. I was going to have all the crews be similar, with the same actors playing a lot of the parts. David James Elliot was the lead character, Catherine Bell was second, Don Johnson was the "action character" in each time period, etc. The idea would have been kind of like the "Eternal Champion" in Michael Moorcock's books.

I like that idea even better.

Hindu style reincarnation of a whole ship's crew and associates. Keep doing it again until they get it right. Maybe Don Johnson gets reincarnated as Selma Heyak in one generation.

I usually look to history or mythology. I'm Black and I often look to Black scientists and explorers for inspiration.
There are a lot of great potential ship names in African Mythology. Trickster gods would make especially good names, I would think. The USS Anansi, for example.
