Question about FST

Shatnertage

Well, there's probably a million out there. This isn't a continuity or nitpicky question, but more of a philosophical one.

Were the people in the FST leading the lives they wanted, the lives the deserved, or just looking for each other?

Here's my argument for "lives they deserved:" Hurley, who's really a good guy, is lucky and successful; Anthony Cooper, who apparently still isn't a nice guy (cf, Sawyer's parents), is a vegetable.

For "lives they wanted," you've got Sawyer trying to right wrongs; Daniel composing music; Desmond has Widmore's respect; Alex feels love and gratitude for Ben, and willingly considers him a father figure.

But what about Kate, Sayid, and other people who don't seem that happy? Is the whole FST just a set-up to get them together?

I'm just trying to wrap my head around this; I'd appreciate hearing your thoughts.

I think the flash sideways were an expression of their lives, since each person contributed to creating their shared reality.

Sayid didn't really love Nadia in the flash sideways since he envisioned her married to his brother and sure enough, he ended up snuggling with Shannon even though Nadia's ghost would be in the same place as both of them are. I guess she realized Sayid didn't really love her and stayed away. :( Sayid still has a lot of self-hatred which is why he envisioned himself as a thug.

Sawyer and Miles probably became friends after their escape from the island, and their partnership in the LAPD reflected that. Sawyer certainly would need a friend after not being able to save his wife, causing the death of three of his friends and having the guilt of surviving when so many died. Miles would need Sawyer to attract women at clubs, with Miles getting the leftovers. :rommie: They probably broke the thesaurus thinking up new insulting nicknames for each other.

So what dya think was behind Jack's fantasy of being married to Juliet and having a son with her? Rivalry with Sawyer, guilt at having caused her death, or maybe he just preferred her to Kate after all. Juliet was always such a lady, and let's face it, Kate was a skank. :p

Kate was happiest when he was being the bad girl on the run. She didn't like being tied down with some guy in a domestic scenario which is why she always pushed Jack and Sawyer away. Her ideal date was to be locked up and flirt with the good-looking cop who locked her up. That was her problem with Sawyer - as a fellow outlaw type, he wasn't as "fun" as if he were an authority figure (like Jack, the doctor, who was flawed in her eyes because he was such a wuss.)

Daniel was a great scientist but always wanted to be a musician. His heaven is to play really crappy music and have everyone believe it's great. Seriously. That music was awful. That wasn't Giacchino, was it?
