Question about Conan taking over "Tonight Show"

So, next year, when Jay retires and Conan takes over The Tonight Show gig... is he 'moving' to California (where Jay does the show) or is he going to stay in New York?

I don't know where anyone is moving to after Jay retires. What I do know is that the show is going to H-E-Double Hockey Sticks Once Conan Takes over.

Steven Allen
Jack Parr
Johnny Carson
Jay Leno
Conan O'Brien (???)

I don't think so.

His show will be from California. I don't have the link, but I heard they are building a new studio for him at Universal Studios Hollywood.

I have a lot of respect for Conan. They didn't think he could rise to the occasion before and he did, so let's give him a chance. Wherever his Tonight Show is broadcast from, I'm sure it will eventually be great :D

Of those currently in the late night talk show business, I think Conan is the best pick, but I'm not a big fan of his show.

Leno said the other night that Conan was going to be hosting the show from California.

Oh man, I just really disagree with you guys. Conan is absolutely hilarious. The guy's witty and goofy, just good stuff. Even his interviews, the things he says to the celebrities and his conversations, are just so funny. I love the guy. His skits aren't as funny, but he makes up for it in his monlogue and interviews.

What I was wondering was: is he going to take Max Weinberg and that band with him, or is he going to inherit Kevin and the Tonight Show band? Either way, one band is out of a job, and that kinda sucks for them.

Also, did you guys read about Jimmy Fallon taking over Conan's spot?

I think everything Conan does is hilarious. I am fully confident in him taking over Leno's spot.

That already happened when Leno took the job. People, he's not funny.

I'm pretty comfortable with Conan taking over, he's great. And I'd have to imagine that Kevin and the band are gone, as Max and the Max Weinberg 7 have gotta make the jump with him. Conan and the band play off of each other a lot, so I can't see you breaking up the team. The announcer, Joel, has gotta come too. Creepy grin and all :)

I like Conan much better than Leno or Letterman for that matter so this move would pique by interest in the "Tonight Show."

Conan is the best. I've gone from Letterman, to Leno to Conan and now I can't even see how I liked the others before.

I think Conan will be great. Imagine what he could do with an increased budget. I think he's much funnier than Leno ever was.

I'm not sure the band will go with him. NBC may use them to ease the transition to the rumoured Fallon.

And Conan is the perfect choice for the job. NBC has done a lot of bad moves in recent years, but this one isn't one of them. Letting go of Leno may be one, but that's another story... :)

To be honest, not the biggest fan of Conan; though I tend not to like these kind of comedy talk shows in general (they're plain not funny; Leno consistently so). But his, ahem, 'involvement' in the Finnish election was one of the funniest things I've ever seen on TV. So I suppose this would be good news if I watched The Tonight Show.

Huh? Though they were talented (especially Allen and Johnny), Allen, Parr, and Carson were virtual unknowns before taking over the Tonight Show. They became who they are remembered as being today after making their bones on the Tonight Show.

To me, Leno was the first host to fail to distinguish himself. He simply is nowhere close to the level of a Steve Allen, or Carson were when their stints on the Tonight Show ended. Parr, Carson, and Allen, raised the level of the genre, they put their own stamps on it. Jay was more of a placeholder.

I think Conan, who is a unique comedic talent on the level of Letterman, will do just fine and is likely to end up completely overshadowing Jay.
