Question about 3D Blu-rays

I just had a quick question about 3D movies on Blu-ray, as I'm really not the most tech-savvy person. I've noticed that said films are available (Thor, Resident Evil Afterlife, upcoming Captain America for example) in normal Blu-ray options, and then also as a 3D version.

Basically I just wondered do you have to have a special 3D TV to watch them, or will they work on a normal HD TV, ie. is it just a normal case of wearing 3D glasses?



As though I never bought one, some 3D films were released on DVD (The Final Destination for example) where some 3D glasses just came in the box and you could watch it on a normal TV that way.

Yes, you need a 3D TV and a 3D-capable Blu-Ray player.

Plus a HDMI 1.4 cable to carry the 3D signal from your 3D ready blu-ray player to your 3D ready TV.

Can also be done with LCD shutter glasses and an IR transmitter connected between the video source (may require 3D software/firmware) and display for synchronization. Left and right fields use alternate frames. Been there, seen it with a Windows PC with VGA display and a glasses/IR sender kit that cost less than $100. The 3D video drivers worked with several modestly priced video accelerator chip sets. There was a frame rate reduction if 3D was used with video games.

I would stay away from buying 3d kit for the moment and hope the industry develops common standards - buying glasses for £50 a go that only work with one make of TV is a PITA.
