Quantum of Solace to be released in UK 17-days before US premiere!

I totally agree. That's a big part of the reason why I think piracy isn't half the problem the industry makes it out to be.

There are quite a few people who would pay if they had to but they don't because they can download a ripped DVD and watch that. That's money lost.

In general, I agree, though - people who pirate movies are not people I would market towards anyway. Sex and the City (sadly) and The Dark Knight proved you can still make money just at the box office.

I think in general, those people who would buy if they had to have a fairly low limit of what they'd pay though. I mean they wouldn't buy/pay to see every film they wanted to see, they would limit it to a couple of films here and there that they're really excited about.

Which brings us back around to most pirates being people you haven't actually lost. Yes, piracy does cost you some money but there's just as many people who would just wait to watch the film on free TV if they had no other alternative.

A ripped DVD is a different matter though. The studios are wise to that now, it's very rare for a blockbuster release to have a leaked DVDrip while it's still doing big business in the cinemas. They are running a much tighter ship than they used to.

Yes, certainly. I don't think a decent enough copy of Quantum of Solace is going to be available in time to do any real damage to its US box office. The last one was a big success, I can't see it losing much of that audience.

I know I'm not really a Bond fan, and I will see it, and I bought Casino Royale on DVD.

In all honesty even if DVDs were out on the day the movie premiered at the cinema, I would still see a lot of movies at the cinema, because I prefer to see them that way. There's (generally) less distractions, you can really concentrate on the film, as opposed to at home where the phone rings, or you can think "What was she in?" and go to imdb and find out where you recognise that actor from, or at the slightest hint of boredom switch the film off and play a game.

^I didn't go and see Casino Royale either. I bought it on Blu-Ray. Though it might have had something to do with the fact that it was released shortly after my house was burgled, which turned me in to even more of a shut-in than I was before.
