Q in the New Movie

A Little Otter

Lieutenant
Red Shirt
This has probably been discussed before, but it would be cool if Q was brought into the J.J. Abrams series of movies. One of the books made the connection between Q and Trelane, so why not a movie? I don't really like Russell Brand, but he would make a perfect Trelane/Q, though there's no reason to not bring back John de Lancie (other than he's much older now). There could be some entertaining reference to the TNG crew (maybe even throwing Picard in the mix for a moment). This could cause all sorts of conflict, especially if he brings up the point that Kirk and co. are living in an alternate timeline.

I think Q was a fun villain for TNG. But I do not think that a Q storyline could hold together a good trek film. Especially one set in the Abrams universe. Q is not serious enough, nor are the stakes high enough when he is around. He can do and undo anything he wants. Part of what made him interesting on TNG was his relationship with those particular characters. When they tried to recreate it on DS9 and Voyager, I was almost a total failure.

No thank you!

Superbeings generally can't be defeated in the kind of action-packed, exciting adventures I'm hoping for. I certainly don't want to see another "humanity on trial" scene rehash from "The Squire of Gothos", "Encounter at Farpoint" and "All Good Things"

Picard and some other members of the TNG crew made appearances in the Countdown comic, and that really ought to be the extent of their involvement in the Abramsverse; they've played their part, such as it is, and it's no longer their story. As for the other bit: since we saw the nu-characters taking the "alternate reality" aspect into consideration in the last movie, I can't see any real point to having Q show up and tell our heroes about something they've already worked out for themselves.

There's going to be another movie?? Hmmm. But shouldn't it be out already? If not, shouldn't it be in production? WHERE'S THE DAMN SEQUEL!?!?

Q was a villain? He was a pain in the ass for both the TNG crew and for the audiance watching! The best bits were when he really was being divine and giving some proper lessions to Picard; about life, confidence and god knows what else. Q would not work in a movie, and JJ Abrams probably hasn't heard of Q, thank god!

he should've been in the TNG movies, the time has come and gone for Q. i think tom hanks would make a good Q, but again, delancie will always be Q.

I do like Trelane & Q, but I'm hoping they
use an Original idea, and an Original villain
in the next movie...

I admit I wondered how Kirk would have handled Q, but there's no way John DeLancie would ever play Q again, so I'd have to say this would never happen.

Actually, Kirk would have probably enjoyed the chance to go up against Q, but Q wouldn't like Kirk. Q doesn't like it when his opponents don't play along. Remember Sisko? He *hit* Q, and Q didn't like that. So Q naturally never troubled Sisko again.

I like Q, I like the elements that he brought to TNG like making humanity face up to the mistakes they have made.

But...

I don't think he fits in an Abramsverse movie... at least not the Q we all know.

No Q. I enjoyed him in TNG, not so much in DS9 or VOY. AGT was a great ending for Q: too bad they didn't leave it at that. Instead we got the zero chemistry appearences with the casts of DS9 and VOY.

Now that I think of it, I'm surprised they didn't try to shoehorn some gimmicky appearence by Q in ENT where he'd make the crew forget he met them at the end, or something equally idiotic. But maybe DeLancie looked too old at that point and they didn't have the CGI tech to make him look "right" at the time....

Really enjoyed Q in TNG....and that is where he should have stayed. No need to even consider bring Q into nuTrek. Just NO.
