Q-demption

Here is my new idea for a post-nemesis show.

It takes place fifty years after the events of Nemesis. The pilot would establish the show in this way.

1. Picard is dead. But at the start of our show, Q, Delanci Q, brings Picard’s soul back from where ever it went. Q informs Picard that the Continuum’s civil war is over. And that, from this point on, all past Q will be retired. But before Q can be ‘retired’, all his past mistakes, and there are many, have to be smoothed over. So, he informs Picard that Picard’s son, who Picard fathered AFTER nemesis, has been chosen by Q to revisit the places or events in time where Q erred, and fix them.
2. This young Picard has many issues with his dead father; that were never resolved. As the series progressed we will learn that Picard died when he and his son were estranged. And it will become apparent that Q isn’t only doing this to help him get promoted, but also to let Picard smooth over the rough edges of his relationship with his son.
3. The writers of this show would have to come up with interesting, sometimes serious, sometimes funny, or sad, things that Q did and find a way to interject this young Picard into to help fix. Could be a point in the past, or present, who knows. But as it goes on, Picard realizes, eventually, that it seems as if Q is just stretching it out so Picard and his son can come to some kind of understanding.
4. The show would not need Patrick Stewart all the time. Maybe five times out of the year he could come back. And since he is doing British TV again, I think he could be lured back to America to film a sequence here and there, or heck, film them over there.

That’s my new idea…Q-demption

I automatically hate it because it's Q. I'm not kidding.

Actually,it could be re-worked with Admanda Q...she would make an interesting choice, and has backstory with Picard as well. In fact, her parents were killed by the Q, perhaps even Q Delanci, for all we know...

Rob

Hmm. I think it would make more sense if it were Q's son righting his father's wrongs. Or a half-human son or daughter, to provide the human touchstone for the show, with Daddy Q along for the ride, teaching his offspring about his/her newly discovered powers.

Maybe a show about Q himself might be even more interesting, as he would be trying to make amends on a cosmic scale. We would see Q meet lifeforms that can challenge even him. And he has the whole universe to travel. Talk about truly going where no one has gone before! The only way to blunt his omnipotence would be to put him in situations that teach him that even an immortal should be humble.

Actually, I could see this as an interesting prose fic. Type it up. Let's see how you flesh this out. Though, I'd go within say 15 years of Nemesis. He's newly married Beverley Crusher & adopted Wesley as his step-son by default. A new child in the Late TNG era would be an interesting twist in the temporal mix towards the "Endgame" & "All Good Things" alternate time periods. Not to mention Q's wife & son "Q2" that occasionally pop in to make "Jean-Luc, Jr."'s life less boring & refers to Captain/Admiral Janeway as "Aunt Cathy".

Not bad! Intriguing:vulcan: Could work. To me, seems like Q-demption would work better on HBO or SHOWTIME as there writers/producers/directors would probably have more freedom. Then later A&E, TNT, regular networks could show reruns ala Sopranos.

Something, to me, & probably only me, reminiscent of CW's REAPER:cool: That's a great thing as I love/miss REAPER. IMO it was the best new show of the Fall 2007/Spring 2008 TV season.

You've come with a good Trek show proposal here:techman:

I actually came up with the title Q-DEMPTION first...and went from there, to be honest...I think it could make a good book series (hint CHRIS!!)

I automatically hate it because it's Q. I'm not kidding.

You'd better be.

Sorry, ThankQ, still not.

And Rob, it isn't a matter of which Q is used. I hate the very concept of Q.

Lemme put it this way: In the Superman comics there's this character called Mr. Mxyzptlk who's only reason for being seemed to be coming to Metropolis from the fifth dimension and doing whacky fun stuff to the city until he pissed Supes off, and the only way to get rid of him was to make him say his name backwards. Okay, got that?

Then pay attention: THAT'S ALL Q IS!!!!! The TNG Trek version of Mr. Mxyzptlk! He is the most overblown, overrated, overused character I've ever seen in any sci-fi series for what his character is...just an omnipotent asshole! Uncle Oscar from Bewitched! is a more compelling character! (And could probably whup Q's ass in a straight up fight!)

So Rob, It wouldn't matter if you used Son Q, Daughter Q, Papa Q, Mama Q or Little Cindy Lou Q, they would all remind me of a character I utterly despise, which means if this were ever a TV show I would rather be the guest of honor at a lynching than watch it. I know Q got fans. I ain't one of 'em.

So I stand by my original post.

I can see your point. He was overused to a degree. But I like the concept of a Q going back to fix problems they caused because it could actually be the frame of the ANTHOLOGY show...the "Q" character would be, in essense, Rod Sterling. Introducing the segment of the show, and setting up the particulars as Rod did....thats how I would use Q..

But, yeah Admiral2, I get your points about the Q. I share some of them with you...

:techman: Mr. Scorpio

Over the last few days I was thinking about this topic. Mainly due to "Reaper"'s return on the CW, daily reruns of "Quantum Leap" on ION, Chiller's occasional "Brimstone" marathons, as well as Irwin Allen's "The Time Tunnel" reruns on AmericanLifeTV*.

Q-demption seems it would have all the best elements of QL, Reaper, The Time Tunnel* & Brimstone:cool:

In Q-demption, the analogue or "equivalent" of Al on QL &/or the Devil on Reaper/Brimstone would be Q.

Picard's son would be like the Sams on QL & Reaper, Brimstone's Officer Stone & TTT's Doug & Tony, all at once:cool:

In the spirit & tradition of those shows I'd be a Q-demption aficionado:hugegrin:

*Time Tunnel airs 9: pm Thursday nights on American Life TV. Stars Robert Colbert & James Darren, DS9's Vic Fontaine.

Gotta warn you though. The Time Tunnel's premise is great, but often executed terribly i.m.o. Many bad episodes i.m.o.

TTT has some good episodes. Alot of cool 60's guest-stars.

I.M.O., TTT was an awesome idea it's PTB usually botched.

I'm glad all these shows are actually shown now:)

Thanks Aquehonga...I threw this idea out cause usually I am not for any 'Berman era" continuation of TREK. However, I think there is sufficent fondness for TNG to do this follow-up, especially if they could get Patrick and Delancie to appear now and then....who knows...

And I have seen TIME TUNNEL and totally agree it was a great premise and introduced us to VIC...
