Q and Guinan

Yeah, I remembered that, which is partially why I asked. I wanted to see if the writers made that distinction back in Q Who as well. (the idea that Q is just a standout troublemaker. even if guinan doesn't outright say that, if she specifically only refers to him as being trouble, then it works.)

If guinan had said Q is bad, and not THE Q are bad, that could work as a seed for that idea.
Ah, then I misunderstood you. I thought you said that John de Lancie was the least bad of them which would make the Q continuum a really f*cked up, evil cult.

You were right to misunderstand me though. I just re-read my post and that's what I said, even though I didn't mean to. Lol. I will edit it to fix that.

To clarify, yeah, I always thought Q was definitely the troublemaker of the Q continuum.

Q2 says he cannot go back to the Q Continuum and tell the others that Q was selfless right before he died because it would be un-Q-like.

"un-Q-like" could mean both unlike John de Lancie, or unlike the species Q but like I said, when I see the episode I don't get the impression that Q2 is much more nicer than Q.

Weird. I don't recall him saying something like that. I wonder if it's a case of memory alpha misinterpreting the line. I probably just forgot it though. I'll go watch it and post my thoughts.

I also reacted to that line when I first read it but I'm too lazy to pick up the DVD right now.

EDIT: I think that it seems that we're supposed to interpret it like that Q2 couldn't go back to the others and tell them of Q's selfless act, because they wouldn't believe it.

It seems we were right. I just watched that scene again (netflix made it easy), and Q2 says absolutely nothing about anything being "un-Q-like"

He just doesn't want to deal with the trouble of going through the whole Q legal system or whatever. He's acting like it would take up too much of his time or something. That's how I took it anyway. So he just gives him his powers back instead. Definitely nothing about it being un Q like though.

Memory alpha, you have failed us!

Corbin Bernson was so great in that scene though.

Maybe that's how whoever wrote that in memory alpha wants us to interpret it, but I don't get that feeling at all when I watch the episode itself. Q2 just acts like he doesn't want to waste his time with the whole process, and never utters the phrase Un-Q-like or anything like it.

Maybe that's what Memory Alpha meant, in a way. That since the others wouldn't believe that Q did a totally selfless act, he would have been forced to go through the whole system. If any of the other Q, would have seen what he did by themselves, maybe most would have done the same thing.

I don't know. There's so little we know of the Q continuum, even if we look beyond canon. Even though I have not read the novel, I think it seems that Q-Squared lacks a lot of detail regarding how Trelane could be a Q and if he had always been one. There are so many questions regarding this and the whole Q continuum.

It was stated that Q's dealings with Guinan was 2 centuries ago. And of course to make things more complicated she wasn't called Guinan then, but was in Time's Arrow!
