I've never bought any items from IKEA, and never really "got" the whole big deal about them, although I have had one of their catalogues in the house once.
That said, ready-to-assemble furniture from whatever furniture dealer or catalogue is something I love to get stuck into. Usually it's simple things like beds, filing cabinets, desks, and on one occasion an exercise bike. There's something physically and mentally therapeutic about laying out all the pieces and methodically putting it all together. At the very least, it's something to do.
And yes, I also loved putting together LEGO sets to make whatever was on the box. Even more than that was going off the beaten track of the instruction manual and building whatever I wanted to make. And I still love it today.
