Push my BUTTON!

In order to be a good commander, sometimes you just have to know how to push a person's button. You know, say the right thing, be it forcefully or with a little tact.

Which of our intrepid Captains had that down the best. Which one knew how to 'push the buttons' of his crew the best???

Sisko first, Picard second. Sisko displayed more self-knowledge and control.

There used to be a comic called Axel Pressbutton - he was a cyborg action hero with a big red button on his chest. It gave him an orgasm. That's all it did. Right there in the middle of his chest, where nobody could miss it.

Pushing a persons buttons is not a good thing. To push their buttons means you know how to get under their skin, how to drive them crazy. It's not something a captain would do to get someone to do a good job.

Ummm..yes they do. I served in the military for 22 years. Pushing Buttons is an artform most of them mastered, and must master, to keep a ships crew crisp. Whether its for disciplinary reasons, or to improve the work quality of the crew, C.O.s push buttons all the time. In an ideal world they wouldn't have to. But trust me, in this world? They do.

Then I guess in the military it has a different meaning. In most cases when you push a person's buttons you're trying to get an emotional response, usually an angry one.

Oh...I totally agree. But trust me, having been there. When the ship pulls into Hobart Australia, a beautiful place by the way, and the C.O. announces on the 1mc that NO ONE will leave the ship for liberty until the ship is spotless? Let's just say, in about two hours, even the oldest ship will look brand new.

I would probably go with Sisko with this one. He was an emotional CO as well and took that emotion and you could see that it influenced his command style.
