PS3 Refuses to Start

You could try a local independent electronic repair shop. "Gophermods" is probably one such shop. These places are littered across the US. At the very least they could get your game.

You could open the system yourself, but you'll need a security torx bit.

As for the hard drive, I'd buy an adapter to hook it up to USB, plug it into a normal computer, copy your information, and put it onto a flash drive. You might be able then just to copy them onto you PS3 directly. If not, I'm sure there's a forum somewhere that'll explain a more lengthy process.
 
You can only copy data on a PS3 hard drive via the back up utility unfortunately... which, of course, requires that it be one. I suppose I understand the need for DRM, but what a pain.
