PS3 Firmware 3.50 problems

Captain Pike

Rear Admiral
Rear Admiral
Last night I went to play borderlands online, and it said it needed to download the latest patch, so it did that, but it then said it needed to connect to the PS3 network to do so.

It was at this stage that I was forced to dl the latest ps3 firmware upgrade, 3.50, in order to connect to the blasted PS3 network. So it did that. Fine. Dandy. Cool bananas..

Only problem is now, when I go to play borderlands online, it fetches the list of matched host games correctly, but it won't connect to 90% of them.

I had a think about this, and wondered if it might be the borderlands patch blocking the blasted hacked items ppl always offer me while playing. Normally, I refuse, but some people get their noses put out of joint when I tell them flatly "No, I don't want to cheat thanks", so the last time I accepted a couple. I never once used them, but there they were sitting in my inventory. So I tried dropping them in an empty game and attempted to connect to someone elses game.

At first this seemed to work - I was able to connect to two games consecutively. They were only lvl 61 crawmerax farming runs, but what the hell, it seemed to be working, so I thought that must've fixed it.

However, since then I have been unable to connect to anyone's game again.

I'll give it another try when I get home tonight, but I hope it resolves itself or this is going to get real old, real fast...

I have heard there are a few other issues with this firmware release, but so far this is the only major problem I've had..

^ I can't really help you because I've never played Borderlands. However I haven't had any problems with 3.50.

Have you checked any Borderlands forums to see if anyone else is having a similar issue?

Borderlands might be having server issues with the new firmware update, give it a few days to see if it resolves itself, which it probably will.

I'll try testing this sometime tomorrow, and see if I run into the same issue since I also have Borderlands. I had difficulties reconnecting to the PSN after doing the update this morning. Had to run the Network connection test to get it working again.

It's still a problem, but it seems to be slowly getting better.

There is also a quest glitch with the 'Armoury Assault' quest which locks you out of the armoury & makes it impossible to turn in. Was playing with someone the other day who said so far that night he'd encountered 6 ppl with the quest glitch & with problems joining other ppls games...

Are you sure this isn't just a problem with your NAT types? If your NAT types were set to Moderate or Strict, that would explain why you can fetch the playlists, but have trouble connecting to the games.

You may have to access your router and do some port forwarding, which would correct the issue. A quick google search should offer up plenty of tutorials to help you if this is the case.

No idea. All I know is before the updates it was all working fine.

Where do I adjust NAT types?

Edit - NM, I see. Currently it's set to NAT 2. I'll try a few diff settings later on.

Well NAT 2 seems to be correct, as that is an open connection via router (if I am understanding correctly). To get NAT 1 I would need to plug in directly (exclude the router) and I am not prepared to do that.

However, it all seems to have pretty much resolved itself now anyway. I hardly ever come across games I cannot connect to anymore. I think it just took time for the Borderlands servers to adjust to the new patches.

Cheers & thanks for the help ppl.
