Did the Sony PS2 ever have an external hard drive? If not why was there an expansion connector on the back? Mine had a large empty hole and connector behind a door on the back.

Nah, that connector was for the short-lived and little-known teledildonics peripheral.
ah....... interesting. I had a silver PS2 which I purchased from a local retailer here with Ratchet & Clank, and I had a couple of Tomb Raider games too. But then I started doing PC things and that got thrown to the side..
