The cookie cutters may have seemed like a good idea at the time (60's / early 70's) but we all know by now that they are obsolete, bland, ugly pieces of shit. No one wants to play or even see a game in places like those.
Nobody's building multipurpose stadia anymore. As Camden Yards proved, it's simply better to build places for one sport alone.

The most general definition of technology is “the application of science or knowledge to commerce and industry.” In other words, it's essentially synonymous with “the creation and use of tools” or “engineering.” Language is an aspect of culture, but I wouldn't define it as a technology.
I disagree. The definition of technology is the practical application of knowledge (it doesn't really have to apply to commerce or industry); which, as you say, means tools. What is language, but a tool?
Some definitions of technology are pretty broad. I've always taken it to mean “the science of the mechanical and industrial arts” -- i.e., physical tools -- a definition first recorded in 1859.
